What I am Thinking Now – Curriculum Vision
Vision for Curriculum
Together we will work toward: Type your answer in the text box.
1. Richness
 Developing an awareness that there are layers of meaning to an idea/concept; openness to finding
patterns and connections and exploring the multiple possibilities and interpretations
 Tapping into natural curiosity and questions about the world to drive the curriculum
 Asking questions throughout an investigative process to continually deepen our understanding
 Being comfortable with “not knowing” or not having the “correct answer”

Beginning: Explain the thinking behind your ranking at this time.

Type your answer here.

 Developing an awareness that there are layers of meaning to an idea/concept; openness to finding
patterns and connections and exploring the multiple possibilities and interpretations
- I am confident in this area, finding scientific connections to everyday life is something that I
like to do, and it is another way of looking into things.
 Tapping into natural curiosity and questions about the world to drive the curriculum

- In this area I am somewhat confident, I am very curios but I think I need to have more drive
in this aspect. I like to know why certain things happen, in some cases I just forget to ask
questions and conform myself with not knowing.

 Asking questions throughout an investigative process to continually deepen our

understanding

- I am very confident in asking questions throughout an investigative process because I like to

be well informed and I like to know what else I need to do or where do I need to improve.

 Being comfortable with “not knowing” or not having the “correct answer”

- I am confident in the fact that not everything is perfect. I know that there will not always be a
specific or correct answer.

Middle: Explain things that are confirmed or changed or confusing.

 Developing an awareness that there are layers of meaning to an idea/concept; openness

to finding patterns and connections and exploring the multiple possibilities and
interpretations
- I am still confident in this area, finding scientific connections to everyday life is
something that I like to do, and it is another way of looking into things.

 Tapping into natural curiosity and questions about the world to drive the curriculum

- I am now a little bit more confident in this area, after doing many projects and examples in
class, I find myself very curious and after I don’t know an answer to question I do and look it
up.

 Asking questions throughout an investigative process to continually deepen our

understanding

- I am still very confident in asking questions throughout an investigative process because I

like to be well informed and I like to know what else I need to do or where do I need to
improve.

 Being comfortable with “not knowing” or not having the “correct answer”

- I am confident in the fact that not everything is perfect. I know that there will not always be a
specific or correct answer. After looking for answers to a particular problem, I couldn’t find
an explanation and it didn’t drive me crazy.

End: Explain why your ideas changed or didn’t change as a result of this class

 Developing an awareness that there are layers of meaning to an idea/concept; openness to

finding patterns and connections and exploring the multiple possibilities and
interpretations
- I am very confident in this point after this class, now I find my self more curious and I
keep asking questions
 Tapping into natural curiosity and questions about the world to drive the curriculum

- I am now a little bit more confident in this area, after doing many projects and examples in
class, I find myself very curious and after I don’t know an answer to question I do and look it
up.

 Asking questions throughout an investigative process to continually deepen our

understanding

- I am still very confident in asking questions throughout an investigative process because I

like to be well informed and I like to know what else I need to do or where do I need to
improve.

 Being comfortable with “not knowing” or not having the “correct answer”

- I am still confient and I know that there will not be an answer to every question that I ask.

2. Recursion
 Re-examine “scientific words and phrases” that you remember, read, or hear from others. What
meaning do these words really have to you?
 Recording your learning experiences for the purpose of reflection and further understanding
 Referring to those reflections and examining what you understood at that time while looking for
connections to newly constructed knowledge and applying this new understanding to questions
and problems

Beginning: Explain the thinking behind your ranking at this time.

 Re-examine “scientific words and phrases” that you remember, read, or hear from others. What
meaning do these words really have to you?
- I am somewhat confident with this area. There are things that I still don’t know and that I
don’t have the knowledge. With these phrases I think of complicated scientific explanation
for experiments or for problem solving.
 Recording your learning experiences for the purpose of reflection and further understanding
- I am confident with the idea of recording my learning experiences to reflect and have a better
understanding later. I think that it is important to have a starting point and compare how much
you have learned throughout the process.
 Referring to those reflections and examining what you understood at that time while looking for
connections to newly constructed knowledge and applying this new understanding to questions
and problems
- I am confident and I agree with this statement. I think it is very important that we have
written reflections and then applying new material learned to the questions and problems.

Middle: Explain things that are confirmed or changed or confusing.

What meaning do these words really have to you?
- I am still somewhat confident with this area. There are things that I still don’t know
and that I don’t have the knowledge. With these phrases I think of complicated
scientific explanation for experiments or for problem solving. After doing an
experiment with scientific material, I was able to name a couple of things, but not all
of them.
 Recording your learning experiences for the purpose of reflection and further
understanding
- I am still confident with the idea of recording my learning experiences to reflect and
have a better understanding later. I think that it is important to have a starting point
and compare how much you have learned throughout the process. I need to write it
down for me to remember it better.
 Referring to those reflections and examining what you understood at that time while

3. Relations
 Engaging in dialogue with others as we work together to deepen understanding – learning
involves the community of learners
 Reflecting on how you are making sense of your learning process and science content both
individually and as group
 Sharing your ideas (i.e. questions, thoughts, concerns, confusion, etc.) openly with others in
group and class discussions so group thinking can occur

Beginning: Explain the thinking behind your ranking at this time.

 Engaging in dialogue with others as we work together to deepen understanding – learning

involves the community of learners

- I am somewhat confident in this aspect, I would like to be more open when talking to others
in projects. Talking socially to other I can do fine, just being in a group and giving orders I
am not good.

 Reflecting on how you are making sense of your learning process and science content
both individually and as group

- I am somewhat confident in this area, there are still things that I don’t understand and that I
could not be a big help in a group. In the other hand, I learn fast and I like science and it is
not hard for me to understand those concepts.

in group and class discussions so group thinking can occur

- I am somewhat confidence, when it comes to sharing concerns or thoughts in groups. When

working in groups I usually wait for others to talk and ask questions and for most parts, they
ask the same questions I had. When I am comfortable with the people in my group I open up
easily.

Middle: Explain things that are confirmed or changed or confusing.

the team and that is when I share my ideas.

4. Rigor
 Becoming aware that learning is a complex multi-dimensional process and that we will have
more questions than we can answer completely at this
 Finding some resolution to an “I-need-to-know” question while aware that there is always more
to be learned about the concept
 Making inferences based on multiple observations and checking their viability in accordance with
your understanding at that time.
 Developing ‘working explanations’ that synthesize what you are thinking, evidence from your
investigations, and ideas from others

Beginning: Explain the thinking behind your ranking at this time.

 Becoming aware that learning is a complex multi-dimensional process and that we will
have more questions than we can answer completely at this

- I am confident and I agree with this statement. I am aware that we tend to ask many questions
when learning something new and that there will not be an immediate response in some cases.

What I am Thinking Now - Expectations

Class Expectations:

1. Attend all class sessions. Notify instructor of absence by email and take responsibility to learn about
missed experiences from your group. In class credit cannot be made up. Absences may lower your
final grade because class activities require participation to earn points. See syllabus.

Beginning: If you don’t think you will be able to attend class on time and/or regularly,
explain the difficult you foresee so we can discuss it.

I determined to attend to every class this semester, I already arranged my work schedule to be free
Tuesdays and even though is all the way downtown, it is only 25 min drive from my house.

Middle: Explain your attendance pattern to date and whether you need to modify it for
the rest of the class.

So far I am doing very good on my attendance, I just need to work on getting there a little bit before class
starts.

Assignment developed by IU School of Education at Indianapolis (IUPUI) faculty.

EDUC 224
Ivy Tech Community College – Central Indiana

End: If you had problems with attendance this semester, explain your situation here.

The last couple of classes, my team and I didn’t attended to class because we were working outside class
and we thought we can save the drive those days

2. Participate fully in all class sessions by working collaboratively with peers, asking questions and
taking responsibility for developing your "scientific self".

Beginning: Explain the thinking behind your ranking at this time.

I am confident and aware of the expectations of this class. The class seems nice and that helps me have
more confidence when asking questions and participating more.

Middle: How are you doing in this regard? Look at the Participation Sheet.

I’ve meet really great people in this class and that helps me be active in my groups and participate more.

End: If you had problems with participation this semester, explain your situation here.

I felt very comfortable in this class with the other students and with the teacher as well.

3. Type or word process all major assignments (double space,12 pt font, see guidelines in syllabus) and
submit documents as instructed.

Beginning: Explain if this is a problem.

- What I am thinking now (Beginning, Middle, End)

- Class Responses (every class)

- Myth Busters

- Article Critique

- Final Paper and Powerpoint

Everything was explained very good, there is a lot of work, but also there is time to do it all.

Middle: How are you doing?

I’ve done every assignment so far .

End: If you had problems with requirement this semester, explain your situation here.

I’ve done every assignment so far .

4. Give each assignment enough time to apply your best thinking and writing skills. I assume that
what you submit is your best work and grade it accordingly.

Beginning: If you think there will be a problem, let me know here and talk with me.

I need to plan ahead my time for each assignment. This first week I was a little behind because my book
was delayed. But I should be on track for the rest of the semester.

Middle: How are you doing?

I am doing really good in this class, I have all my assignments planned out and I have my calendar always
available to make sure I don’t miss anything

End: If you had problems with doing your best this semester, explain your situation
here.

I kept myself organized at least in this class, and I finished all my assignments

5. Submit all work on due date. See the syllabus for the late policy and assignment submission
instructions.

Beginning: Explain if this is a problem.

Assignment developed by IU School of Education at Indianapolis (IUPUI) faculty.

EDUC 224
Ivy Tech Community College – Central Indiana

In the syllabus is very clear about the no late work policy and I agree with it.

Middle: How are you doing?

So far I don’t have any late assignments

End: If you had problems with getting assignments in on time this semester, explain
your situation here.

I didn’t have any late assignments

I like to have all the new information presented first and discussing it with a teacher, then it is okay to
work on groups or look information by ourselves. Sometimes if we don’t have a guide or an idea of what
we are looking for, we might find wrong information. This is why I like to know before going to work
with other people.

Middle: Explain why your preferences have or have not changed at this time.

I now have learned to like figuring out answers on my own and I like more the group discussion.

End: Summarize your thinking about this section related to this course. How might
this experience influence you in the future?

Like I mentioned before, I still have the same numbers and this will influence my future because I know
the way I will be learning better.

Beginning: Explain the thinking behind your ranking

It is easier to be graded by your accomplishments and how you are working in class. I think if you are
doing all the assignments and paying attention in class it will pay off.

Middle: Explain why your preferences have or have not changed at this time.

The only that changed, I that I think is very useful to do the beginning, middle and final thoughts because
I can see how I change the way I used to see things.

End: Summarize your thinking about this section related to this course. How might
this experience influence you in the future?

I didn’t change my answers from the last time, I think everything was very good.

I don’t really like to talk in front of the class. I feel more comfortable talking in a small group, because
there is more trust and it is easier to know each other better. I would really like to work on my confidence
to talk for openly during class.

Middle: Explain why your preferences have or have not changed at this time.

I am still working on talking more in front of the whole class, but I am more confident now in small
groups and I feel that I can take a little bit of leadership
