The advent of this career has brought information to the peoples of the world through many mediums, yet there are few cities that do this the best. The current areer availabilty, future demand for workers, and the job hours make Broadcasting/Communications an excellent career choice for the Houston/Galveston area, | The experience needed for this career is not only easy to obtain, but itis also easily, provided in the Houston/Galveston area. In order to start off at the average median pay of $37,690 per year, broadcast workers would have to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in ‘Communications. However, an Associate’s Degree in Communications is enough to begin most jobs on the starting pay of about $25,580 per year (Film and Video Editors and Camera Operators). Many colleges in the Houston area such as Alvin Community College and the University of Houston provide substantial broadcasting programs to easily obtain these degrees. Getting experience in the field isn’t difficult at all, as college students can start interning at news stations, sports media teams, and even in Houston’s largest event, the Houston Rodeo. makes an adequate location for communications majors to find a career. Houston is one of the ities in the United States, which attracts large news companies such as CBS, ABC, and largest Fox. The Greater Houston Area covers over 2 million people, meaning there are a large number Mason 2 of radio and TV stations that have to reach out and provide information and entertainment to these people. Having a high concentration of broadcast companies in one area allows for many opportunities to start a career. The sports broadcast industry also generates many broadcasting jobs. With professional sports teams such as the Houston Dynamo, Houston Texans, and the recent World champion, Houston Astros, the sports industry creates many jobs for people in and ‘out of Houston to start and end careers there{(The Galveston area does not provide as many ‘opportunities for communications as much as Houston does, but Galveston County's lower living costs make it a great home next to work() Galveston is aiso the closest city to Houston, which makes it easy to live in Galveston while working in Houston. It only takes around one hour to travel from downtown Galveston to downtown Houston, making for easy travel. However, one major flaw of the Houston/Galveston area is the traffic.
