Sub: Inhuman and cruel treatment to the Children in the name of discipline by Baldwin Boys High
School, Bangalore.

1. Wish to state and bring to your kind notice about certain incidents happened on 26th July 2018 in

Baldwin Boys High School, Bangalore

2. I am resident of above mentioned address living along with my wife and son, son aged about 6 years

studying at Baldwin Boys High School, Bangalore, in Class 1.

3. I have dropped my son to school around 8.10 am, since we have forgotten his lunch box, I had to go

back to school around 9.15am to hand over the lunch box. The school gates were closed, I noticed more than 10

kids, in the school uniform, aged between 4 to 6 years, standing in front of the school gate, weeping and crying

and pleading with security persons, to let go them inside. However, the gates were not opened.

Having witnessed the scene, I could not withheld my emotions, I spoke to those children and got to know that they

were dropped at the school gates by their transporter around 8.25 a.m. by which time the school gates were

closed and that the security persons did not oblige to open the school gates, the children not knowing the way

back home and was starving with pain were about to faint in front of school gates as they had only 1 glass of milk

at home around 7 am, I have pleaded the school management and principal Antony D’Souza, to let the children in

to the school, Principal being in-human refused to do so as he wanted to punish the innocent children in name of

maintaining discipline indulging himself in children cruelty. Having seen the said pathetic condition, I started

requesting the security person and principal again and again to open the gates and let those kids be taken inside

for children security and safety as there could be possibility of children being exposed to any sort of danger

including abduction and traffic mishap.

However, despite my several requests, the school authorities did not oblige to either open the gates or at least get

those kids inside the school premises. Given with such situation, left with no choice I called emergency number

100 sought for the assistance of the police by calling police control room and informed the police about the

situation. Within sometime around 9.50Am, the patrolling police, after receiving instructions from the police

control room, reached the school and at their intervention, the school management opened the gates and let

those kids inside the school premises. The police personnel, who had visited the school, warned the school to

mend their ways while dealing with small kids and make necessary arrangements to see that the safety of the

children be ensured at all times and the police left the school.

After this episode was over, to my utter shock and dismay, the subsequent incident has made me panic as to the

safety of the children in the school and also those parents who have reposed confidence in the management of the

school.

Immediately, staff member told me to be in principal office and a phone call was made to my wife from there, who

was at home and she was asked to immediately summoned to appear in school, Within 20 to 25 minutes

thereafter, my wife reached the school and after she had come inside the chambers of the Antony D’Souza -

Principal, more than eight staff of the school barged inside the chambers of the principal, started abusing me and

my wife with filthy language and snatched our mobile phones and broke it, started manhandling me, some of them

have hit me with their fist and warned us that I should not have interfered with the norms of school not allowing

the kids after the gates are closed and it is not my business to inform the police and take their assistance to let the

children inside the school and whatever I have done was against the practice of the school, for which principal has

a reason to thrown away my son from 1st Standard and issue us TC immediately from the school, and my wife shall

also be dealt appropriately. Me and my wife were helplessly wrongfully confined in the principal’s chamber for

more than an hour. My wife pleaded and begged them with tears to let us go and explained the importance of

children security and safety concern, and requested them to please inform the parents about their children being

not let inside the school.

The Principal got very furious, he started manhandling me by holding my neck and abused in filthy language. My

wife was hit and pushed hard to the corner of the room, and school authorities called the police to come to the

school immediately. Within 10 to 15 minutes, thereafter, some four police men came there and claim to be

attached to Ashok Nagar police station. They started threatening us stating that in case if we were to make an

issue out of this, they deal with me appropriately by taking complaint from the school authorities and see that we

are sent behind bars by foisting a false criminal case against us.

After the entire episode, I was panic and disturbed, and requested the school authorities to let me go. Thereafter,

they have obliged and sent me out with stern warning that I shall not take it further and everything has to be

burred then and there. After having come to home, as a parent whose son is studying in the school, I had given a

clear thought as to whether my son would continue in the same school. I have decided to take back my child from

the school and also not to let go the culprits only for the sake of my child continuing in the school, where the

interest of the thousands of the children studying there involved. As I have witnesses the hostile attitude of the

jurisdictional police i.e., Ashok Nagar Police station in at least understanding the situation and taking fair and

appropriate action, I lost all hopes about the police taking any proactive steps against the school management for

all the overt acts committed both against the children not allowing, endangering their safety and also physically

assaulting me and criminally intimidating, which are serious offences under the punitive law of the land. Despite

having full knowledge and firsthand information, they have in fact became parties as to what transpired in the

school premises against me even though they were physically present when the entire incident had happened.

In this view of the matter, I feel more appropriate to bring these aspects for your kind information and knowledge

with fond hope that you shall take appropriate action against the management of the school which claims to be a

reputed school in the City of Bangalore where thousands of children are studying and management has failed in

providing adequate safety to the kids of the age group of 4-10 years exposing them to all sorts of danger,

Manhandling the parents, who question these atrocious acts of the management, I bring to your kind knowledge

as to in the interest of other children, appropriate enquiry will be held at your instance and instructions by the

concerned authorities and necessary action be taken against the school management at the earliest in order to

protect the interest of thousands of students studying in the school.

The action in this regard will have a far reaching effect in installing confidence in the parents about the proactive

steps and action of Government against this mighty institution and also will be a warning bell to many other

institutions, who have chosen to become money making institutions rather than man making institutions. With this

fond hope I shall be eagerly waiting for proactive action from you end for which I shall remain grateful to you Sir.
