Learning Outcomes

List two or three learning outcomes that you want the students to achieve as a result of participating in
the virtual field trip and its related lesson. (be specific & descriptive)

-Students will learn the significance of Greco-Roman art and architecture in relation to understanding the
culture and mindset of ancient Greeks and Romans.
-Students will understand Greek influence on Roman society through art and architecture.
-Students will understand the technological advances of Romans and why Roman buildings survive in
some form into the modern era.
Developmental Activities

List 2 or 3 developmental activities (related to your learning outcomes) that you have found or will
develop and then deliver to your class prior to the virtual field trip itself that will focus the students on the
skills necessary to be successful during the virtual field trip and its related lesson. (be specific &
descriptive)

- Go through a timeline of events regarding Greece and Rome, starting with Minoan civilization and
ending with the collapse of the Roman Empire. (Link in Materials section; can be edited down for
lower level use.)
- Do a guided compare and contrast between Greece and Rome using a venn diagram, using pictures
and captions instead of simply text.
- Have students come up with questions they may have to ask the tour guide during the actual tour of
Hearst Castle.
Focus Activities

List 2 or 3 focus activities (related to your learning outcomes) that you have found or will develop and
then deliver to your class during the virtual field trip itself that will focus the students on the skills
necessary to be successful during the virtual field trip and its related lesson. (be specific & descriptive)

-Have students pick out two art pieces, one Greek and one Roman, from the tour, sketch them to the
best of their ability, and explain why they are important or what they represent in Greco-Roman
society.
-Try to create a Greek vase work using a styrofoam cup as the ‘vase’ in relation to a subject covered
during the VFT
Evaluation Activities

List 2 or 3 evaluation activities (related to your learning outcomes) that you have found or will develop
and then deliver to your class after the virtual field trip itself that will focus the students on the skills
necessary to be successful during the virtual field trip and its related lesson. (be specific & descriptive)
-Do a solo compare and contrast similar to the guided venn diagram in the Developmental Activities
section, using mostly pictures with captions instead of plain text (rubric in Materials; Rubistar link).
-Have students write out a reflection piece on the experience for both feedback and to ensure students
internalized the lesson (would be graded for completion and relevancy; i.e. a student can do it and not
get points by writing about what they did after school the day of the VTF instead of about the subject
matter)
