Lesson Plan
DOK question: What is the student's interpretation of the text? What can they infer?
Purpose: Allow students to make inferences from the text in order to make
predictions on how the story may evolve.
Materials:
- Large poster paper
- Post-it Notes
- Box
- Markers
- Text (Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio, pg.6-7)
- Highlighters
- Pencil/Pen
Introduction: Teacher will explain the activity to the students and explain inferences
to the students. (10 minutes)
Reading: Students will read the text and highlight/underline information they find
relevant. (15 minutes)
Activity:
● Students will draw a random piece of paper from the box containing a small
quote/sentence from the passage. Then they will place the quote/sentence in
a corresponding slot on the left side of the large poster paper that will be
placed on the wall. A total of 5 quotes (5 minutes)
● Students will be given post-its to make inferences from the quotes/sentences
that were placed by them on the poster. (20 minutes)
● Students will discuss their inferences with each other. (10 minutes)
Assessment:
5 or more post-it inferences= 100
4 post-it inferences= 90
3 post-it inferences= 80
2 or less post-it inferences= 70
