Background

Street dog are the homeless dog. They need to have support of government and the local people

like us. The always are in a vulnerable situation in different street of Patan. Street dogs, known in

scientific literature as free-ranging urban dogs or urban free-ranging dogs, are unconfined dogs

that live in cities. They live virtually wherever cities exist and the local human population

allows, especially in the developing world and the former USSR. Street dogs may be stray dogs,

pets which have strayed from or are allowed freedom by their owners, or may be feral animals

that have never been owned

Problem Statement

As I went back to my house after my college I always get to see street dog in many number. As I

love dog very much my empathic feelings towards the street dogs of my locality began to rise

and I begin with this research.

I slowly start to research about the dogs and the agencies who are working for the street dogs.

My future plan is to work for street dog and I love dog very much I am conducting my research

on street dog.
Research Questions

1. What are your direct impact that street dog brings in your daily life?

2. What do you mean by animal violation and how do you feel or do when seen?

3. Have you heard about any agency who works for street dogs? Name them.

4. What are your future plans to overcome these issues?

Literature review

The Kathmandu animal treatment centre (KAT center) is the organization who works for the

betterment of animal in the Kathmandu valley. It seeks to uplift the animal and provides animal a

home and shelter and also treat animal in need. This organization is founded by Jan Salter. Who

is influence from the Indian system of management of street dog and brings the system to help

the dogs of Nepal.

More than 22,500 dogs lives in the street of Kathmandu valley. And many suffer from starvation,

diseases, homelessness, infection. This article from (KAT) also explains about the street god and

the system to shelter all the street dogs of Nepal.

Therefore, there should be more agencies like (KAT) in Nepal in order to uplift the issues like

mine. Street dogs should be loved and treated like human are being treated. And the agencies

should also perform their task sincerely and the social workers like us should check regularly.
Research Method

The research has used purposive method to collect the best information that helped to explain the

relationship between the factors of research properly. The Research design aimed to define how

the street dogs of Patan has its impacts on the local people. The researcher has taken the youth

of Patan area as a universe of the study. Researcher had selected 6 respondents for this research.

The sample was taken from 6 youth respondents who are regular user of social media. This

research has made use of both primary and secondary sources. Generally the first hand data was

collected from the primary sources. The required information from primary data was collected

from questionnaire, interview and observation. Whereas various published and unpublished

articles, journals, reports, books, magazines, newspaper articles and so on was used by the

researcher as per the need to meet the objectives of the research.

Data collection methods and tools

 Primary data collection

 Questionnaire

Open- ended and close ended questions was designed to fit the purpose of the study. 6

respondents were asked to fill up the questionnaires as a part of this research work.

 Interview

The data needed for the research has been collected from face to face interaction with the

respondent. So interview was used as a data collection tool.

 Secondary data collection

The secondary data was collected through intensive literature reviews related to the topic. The

study has included various published literature like: books, journals and reports from different

online sources.

Data analysis

The researcher analyzed the outcome of the study by studying the out come given by the

respondent of the Patan. The people of paten are ready to help street go but not in a systematic

way. They only feel sympathy regarding street dog and the short term empathy feelings is also

observed i.e taking dogs near the veterinary, giving the leftover food to the street dogs etc. But is

they are able to make this empathy in a systematic way it would have been very big support to

street dogs.

Lack of awareness is also another analysis of the street dogs of Patan. The youth there don’t

know the agency who works for the street dogs. Therefore, there should be the awareness

program of different agencies who works for the betterment of the street dog in Kathmandu

valley.

Accidents, sometime bite, disturb in morning walk, feelings of love disturb you and same

feelings disturb them in their work and similar other impacts were also observed during the

course of my research.

Inject the female dog for the stoppage of their fertility was also seen by the government in

the year 2072 B.S. but it was not the solution the female baby dog at that time grows and

again bread the new baby and the number of the dog increases till the date.
Findings

 Short term empathy feelings

 Sympathy feelings towards street dogs

 Lack of awareness about the agencies

 Disturbances of street dogs

 Accident and bite by street dogs

 Lack of policy for the betterment of street dogs

 Lack of implementation of prevalent policies for street dogs

Conclusion

Street dogs are the animals, which don’t have home and don’t have the food to eat. As

compare to human beings animals also have their rights and it is our duty to preserve the

animal rights and make the life on land preserved.

The entire animal in this universe has their own right to live. Not only street dogs but all the

animal should preserved and protected and give them chance to live in the beautiful earth.

Animal cant speak and think like we do therefore we should be their voice and we should

preserve and conserve them.
