Journal 6 “For These Women Reading is a Daring Act” narrated by Laura Boushnak
The message that was being conveyed is that women use education as a key in order to be

independent and not to count on men. Most Arab women couldn’t go to school or were forced to

drop out of school and were to work in order to support their family. Despite the poverty in the

community and the mindset they belittle Women’s education. One of the women that were

interviewed by Boushank tells us that there is a new bacterium everyday ever since the

revolution, she was referring to “The rise of religious fundamentalism” in the region. This is

another obstacle to Arab women. These women show us that it is possible to overcome many

barriers through education.
