1 (a) What is the use of DFT in power spectrum estimation?
(b) Compare the computational complexity of DFT and FFT.
(c) Find x (k) for the sequence x (n) = 2n and N = 8 using decimation-in time FFT algorithm.

2 (a) Bring out the comparison of the FIR and IIR filters with respect to phase, stability and
number of computations.
(b) Briefly describe about the algebraic stability test.

3 (a) Explain about FIR filter design using least integral squared error.
(b) Realize the following system with minimum number of multipliers:
H(Z) = 0.5 + 0.75Z-1 + 0.8Z-2 + 0.9Z-3 + 2Z-4 + 0.9Z-5 + 0.8Z-6 + 0.75Z-7 + 0.5Z-8.

4 (a) Explain the computation of sliding – discrete fourier transform.


(b) Discuss briefly about:
(i) Fast DFT algorithms.
(ii) Chirp Z –Transform.

5 (a) Compare fixed and floating type of processors.


(b) Discuss about the finite word length effects in computation of FFT algorithms.

6 (a) Explain clearly the Barlett method of implementation for power spectral estimation and
compare it Blackman-Tukey procedure.
(b) Compare various non-parametric methods of power spectrum estimation with respect
to figure of merit, quality, variability, resolution and number of computations.

7 (a) What is the need for multirate sampling in real time applications and discuss the
problems that arise due to down sampling of the data and how to overcome them.
Explain in detail with necessary mathematical expressions.
(b) Discuss any two applications of multirate signal processing.

8 (a) Define spectrum and hence discuss the importance of spectral analysis.
(b) Explain in detail about the over sampling process in D/A converter.
