Procedure

1-The above figure shows the flow that is flowing through individual pipes.
2-Take the volume constant let’s say we take 5 litres.
3-Firstly, the arrangement of apparatus is set as shown in above figure. Connect the pipes
according to the above figure.
4-Start the system to see whether there is leakage or not but make sure that all the valves are
closed except valve 1 and 6.
5-Connect the manometer with hydraulic bench in order to measure pressure difference.
6-Take about four readings and increase flow rate in each reading.
7-Measure the pressure difference for different flow rates. And note down the time when 5 litres
of water is discharged.
8-Plot a graph between head loss and discharge flow rate by taking discharge flow rate at x-axis
and head loss at y-axis.
9-Do the procedure 4 again by switching pipe 5 to 3 and 2 respectively.

Safety and precautions

1. Dress appropriately. For example: wear boots and safety goggles.
2. Do not wear ties or other loose pieces of clothing that can get stuck in fast moving equipment
3. Do not wear clothes that you would mind getting dirty.
4. Roll up sleeves if necessary.
5-Place the device on flat(level) surface.
6-Open the flow control valve carefully.
7-Fill the sump tank with water until it is 10cm below the edge.
8-Connect it to power supply and switch on main power switch
9-Switch on the pump.
10-Change water after every 7 days.
