Attention Grabber As an introduction to a few of the landmarks the students will learn
about in the story book, they will be shown some of the teacher’s per-
sonal travel pictures and watch a short tourism video about London
and Paris.
Assessment of “What is a landmark?”

side your community? Outside of Canada?”
Expectations of Review classroom expectations, students are sitting in their carpet

Transition to Body “We are going to read a story about Felix the bunny and learn about
the different countries he travels to around the world.”

Learning Activity Students will listen to a read-aloud of the picture book, ‘Letters from
#1 Felix,’ and throughout the reading, students will be asked guiding
questions about where is Felix and what landmarks does he visit.
• After reading about Felix in Rome, students will watch a short tour-
ism video about Rome in Italy and shown the pictures from Rome.
• They will be shown on the map where London, Paris and Rome are
in relation to where the students live.

Teacher Notes: The picture book is quite text heavy, if the class seems to be getting a
little restless, have them stand up and take a minute to stretch and get
resettled.

Consolidation of Students will be asked to go home and ask they parents and family if
Learning they know of, or have visited any special places or landmarks in an-
other part of the world and report back what they learned in the next
social studies class.
