Social Studies – Assessment Policy

 All assessment work is to be handed in by the due date in the Year Planner or as
directed by your Social Studies teacher.

Missed and Late Assessments:

 Work will NOT be accepted for assessment after the designated collection time
unless excused by illness, bereavement or trauma.
 When a student has missed an assessment or deadline due to illness etc they must
bring a signed note/email from home explaining the circumstances upon their
return to school. Acceptance of the note and the granting of an extension is still at
the discretion of the classroom teacher and/or the HOLA.
 Late work will not be accepted unless exceptional circumstances exist and an
extension has been granted by your teacher well before the due date.
 If students complete their assignment on a computer it is important that they plan
their assessment time-line to allow for the possibility of computer problems. These
could include computer/drive/printer problems and students must understand that
these are their responsibility and will not be considered legitimate grounds for
compassionate consideration. (e.g. arriving at school the morning an assignment is
due and saying your printer had no ink WILL NOT be an acceptable excuse).

Assessment Misconduct:

 It is your responsibility to ensure that all work submitted is your own work. Using
information or material without acknowledgement is plagiarism, a serious form of
cheating, and will result in;
o Non achievement of the standard
o No other assessment opportunity
o School disciplinary procedures
 Any form of cheating, copying or misconduct in a formal assessment will result in
the above measures being taken.

Declaration:

I have read the above and agree to abide by the Social Studies Assessment Policy and
the wider BDSC Assessment Guidelines as outlined on Office365.
