The first pop superstar was Elvis Presley. In the 1950s, the American singer was “the King”,
but in the 1960s, a British grouped called the Beatles were number one in the pop world.
Rock and disco music were popular in the 1970s, but punk rockers were the new
sensation. Their hair and clothes were very strange, and punk music wasn´t a hit with parents!
Every decade has its superstars and in the 1980s one of the big names was Michael Jackson.
Nearly 50 million people have got his album, Thriller.
A lot of pop groups in the 1990s weren´t very original, but in the discos the music was non-
stop and at top volume. It was the decade of dance music.
