This is the eighth Art of Science exhibit and competition hosted by Princeton University. The 2017
competition drew more than 170 submissions from a wide-range of disciplines. Our curated
selection this year includes both images and videos by our undergraduate and graduate students,
faculty, alumni and staff.

Art of Science 2017 is sponsored by the David A. Gardner ‘69 Fund in the Council of the

The organizers for Art of Science 2017 were Jasmin Imran Alsous, Department of Chemical and
Biological Engineering, Adam Finkelstein, Department of Computer Science, and Steven Schultz,
Director of Communications at the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
The first AoS competition in 2005 started as a collaboration between the School of Engineering and
Applied Science and the Visual Arts Program. It was conceived by photographer Andrew Moore '79,
former students Alex Halderman ‘03*09 and Katalin Lovasz *07, and Professor of Computer
Science Adam Finkelstein, under the auspices of Maria Klawe, the former dean of the engineering,
The 2017 exhibit was designed and printed by the Princeton Digital Print Center. Special
acknowledgment to Darcy Cotten, Leona Rosso-Dzugan, and Jim Elbrecht. The original Art of
Science logo was designed by Jonathan Harris ‘01
Special thanks to Emily Carter, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, for acting
as master of ceremonies during the exhibit opening, and to our distinguished panel of judges:
James Steward, director of the Princeton University Art Museum; Emmet Gowin, professor of
visual arts in the Lewis Center for the Arts, emeritus, and Jeffrey Whetstone, professor of visual
arts.
