Assignment 2: Project of Item Development and Analyzation

First of all, I would like to send my highest gratitude to Dr.Liyana because her
guidance and sincere help have had help me and my teammate finishing the project on
time. I believe that I have learnt a lot of things throughout the process of making sure
that this project will be a success and most of them are on the positive side rather than
negative side. I am just a normal human being and I would like to admit that when
Dr.Liyana announced about this project during lecture, I was feeling so nervous and
my mind totally went blank because I have never been involved in creating and
analyzing items for as long as I could possibly remember! However, my teammates;
Noor Atiqah and Nurfarah Najlaa had been such a big help on giving me strength and
support so that I would not give up easily. Other than that, they also have given a full
cooperation along the way and each of us also had sacrificed our time and money to
finish this project.
The project is about developing and analyzing items on any constructs that me
and my team favored with. We had chosen to analyze items from Bahasa Melayu
Pemahaman Tahun 6 2018 Trial Exam Paper from Sekolah Kebangsaan Binjal, Jitra,
Kedah. The items included 20 objective questions and 5 subjective questions with sub
questions for each of the questions. To our surprised, the questions were quite tough
and we also had problem in searching the best answers for questions which applied on
higher order thinking skills (KBAT). In order to help us analyzing the items, we had
incorporated two most important concepts pertaining on items analyzation which is
Item Difficulty and Item Discrimination. When we generated the data from the SPSS,
we looked on the mean value for each of the items to recognize any questions with the
highest and lowest difficulty. Afterwards, we continued on looking at any items with
highest and lowest trait in discrimination in order to determine which items can be
removed. Apart from that, we also learnt about the way of creating Table of
Specification (TOS) and also the importance of having one. I would recommend for
the teachers to develop the TOS so that they can analyze the items correctly and also
know a little bit more about the understanding level of their students for any particular
subjects.
Throughout the process, I had revisited to most of the lecture’s notes and my
own notes. The notes given by Dr. Liyana are sufficiently enough to help me and my
teammates with this project. Furthermore, we also had done searching some additional
facts in internet in order to increase our own understanding regarding the UPSR
format which is very different from our format. I would rather concluded that students
nowadays need to be prepared on applying and analyzing the knowledge that they
have learnt rather than memorizing. The questions with the highest mark on
constructed responses mostly involved higher order thinking skills since the students
need to give their reasonings to answer this type of questions. Other thing that is
important to complete this project is the SPSS software. Without the help from
Dr.Liyana in supplying the file for the rest of us to download the SPSS, I would rather
swear to myself that I would probably have a hard time to complete this project. SPSS
is the heart of this task and through it we can easily organize the data and analyzing

the numbers coming from the calculations generated by the SPSS. It is also fine to key
in the data by using Microsoft Office Excel however, I would say that SPSS is so
much easier and not really tedious compare to Excel.
Last but not least, I would like to thank my teammate for everything that they
have done. We had communicated really well and adored the opinions given by each
one of us in order to meet the rubric scoring for this project. If one of the members
were having difficulties at her part, other members would be landing our hands in
helping her to understand the requirements and guiding her along the way. Like I have
mentioned above, each of us were willing to sacrifice our time by staying at the
university to discuss about our progress. In addition, we showed our cooperation in a
very positive way and because of these reasons, me and my team are hardly facing
with any conflicts and disagreements along the journey of completing this project.
