DEMOGRAPHY
 The landlocked country of Switzerland is a
diverse mix of people with different languages
spoken right across the nation.
 Switzerland had a population of 8.4 million as of
2016. Its population quadrupled over the period
1800 to 1990 (average doubling time 95 years).
Population growth was steepest in the period after
World War II (1.4% per annum during 1950-1970,
doubling time 50 years), it slowed down during
the 1970s to 1980s and has since again picked
up to 1% during the 2000s (doubling time 70
years).
NATURAL RESOURCES
 Waterpower is the chief natural resource of
Switzerland.The principal source of water is runoff
from the considerable annual precipitation that
falls on the Alps.The Swiss have long harnessed
the energy of falling water productive uses.
MINERAL RESOURCES
 Mineral resources are not abundant in Switzerland.
Granite, limestone, other building stones, and salt
are only abundant mineral resources with
commerical value.
ECONOMY
 Switzerland is a peaceful, prosperous and modern market
economy with low unemployment. Switzerland has one of
the world's highest per capita GDPs and a highly skilled
labor force. The economy relies on financial services,
precision manufacturing, metals, pharmaceuticals,
chemicals and electronics.
CULTURE
 Swiss culture is characterised by diversity which is
reflected in a wide range of traditional customs . The
culture icons are Swiss chocolate , Swiss cheese, Swiss
army knife, banking, cowbell etc.
TRADITIONS
 The Swiss have always observed and nurtured the local
customs which has Switzerland to become a country with
an extremely wealthy cultural activity and living tradition.
FESTIVALS
 Basel Carnival-

 The largest carnival in


Switzerland. It kicks off on
the Monday after Ash
Wednesday.
 Locarno Film
Festival
Over the past 67 years,
the Locarno Film Festival
has established an
international reputation.
Every August, over
1,60,000 visitors and
some 3,000 film industry
professionals enjoy new
films from all over the
world.
RELIGIONS
 Switzerland is a Christian
country. Around 2/3rd of
the population are either
Roman Catholic or
Protestant (Reformed
Evangelical).
 38.2% of the Swiss
population are Roman
Catholic.
 26.9% of the Swiss
population belong to the
mainstream Protestant
church.
 Many of Switzerland's
festivals have their roots
in religion.
LANGUAGE
 The four National
languages of Switzerland
are German, French,
Italian and Romansh. All
but Romansh maintain
equal status with the
Federal Administration of
the Swis Confedration. In
some situation,Latin is
used particularly as a
single language to denote
the country.
CURRENCY
 The Swiss Franc (CHF) is
the only official currency in
Switzerland. The franc is
the only currency
accepted everywhere.
The Swis National Bank
(SNB) issues banknotes
and the federal unit.

 The greatest mountain
range in Europe provides
Switzerland with breath
taking scenery.It has
made it possible for the
country's skiing tradition to
be born.It's snowy resorts
are much appreciated by

RHINE FALL
 The Rhine Falls is the
largest waterfall in
Switzerland and Europe.
The falls are located on
the High Rhine on the
border between the
cantons of Schaffhausen
and Zürich, between the
municipalities of
Neuhausen am Rheinfall
and Laufen-Uhwiesen/
Dachsen, next to the town
of Schaffhausen in
northern Switzerland.
LAKE LUCERNE
 Lake Lucerne is a lake in
central Switzerland and
the fourth largest in the
country. The lake has a
complicated shape, with
several sharp bends and
four arms.

two of them .
