WHAT IS TEMPERATE
GRASSLANDS?
• IT IS A VEGETATION BELT DOMINATED BY VERY
SMALL GRASSES WHICH OCURR BETWEEN 40
DEGREE TO 50 DEGREE LATITUDES IN NORTHERN
AND SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE.
Where are they found in India?
• They are found in the high mountains fields of
the himalayas.
What is the precipitation and climate
found in temperate grasslands?
Temperate grasslands have semiarid climate
and normally recue between 15 and 30 inches
of precipitation per year.
Features of grasslands?
• The grass is very small but rich in nutrients.
• These grasslands make excellent grazing
grounds for cattle.
• Cattle and sheep rearing is the main
occupation here ; the diary industry is
important.
• Extensive cultivation is practiced in some
regions where the farmers grow wheat and
corn.
Animal life of grasslands?
• Many kinds of animals are found in temperate
grasslands . But main animals are buffaloes,
bison, antelopes , zebra, hyenas, snakes and
rabbit. People living here keep these animals
with them.
