31) Summarry (15 marks) (Suggested answer)
The Christmas tree has long been a symbol of the Christmas spirit. It was
previously a symbol used to ward off witchcraft, evil spirits and ghosts. It was
also used to signal the winter solstice and that spring was approaching. The tree
tradition, however, started in Germany in the l6th century. This practice was
further popularized by in 1846 in England by Queen Victoria and her family.
They were featured in the London News standing around a Christmas tree. Soon
the trend reached American soil, especially in the east coast. Tree decorations
were originally homemade ornaments. This has eventually changed to more
commercialized ornaments and even the trees are made of plastic. Most of them

are manufactured in China. There are even virtual Christmas tree farms on the
Internet nowadays (130 words)

One of the main themes explored in this story is the importance of a career.
Al1 the characters in the story had a career, with the exception of Momma and
Aunt Mimi.
Anna was extremely ambitious and wanted to rise in her career. \When
she accidentally discovered the fruitcake perfume formula, she was more
concerned about how she could make a lot of money with it. She planned to
manufacture and sell it so she immediately went to see Aunty Mimi the next day
to get the recipe for the cake. She did not think about using it on herself to attract
men.
Armstrong worked hard for two years to build up his career. He started
out as a pizza delivery man and ended up as the owner of his own pizza business.
His love for Anna was the impetus he needed to drive him to succeed in his career.
David Amos was Anna's boss and the owner of the Amos Cosmetics
factory. He was a shrewd businessman and had an expert nose for perfumes. In
the end, when David was no longer under the influence of the fruitcake perfume,
he wanted Anna to keep on working in his factory. So, he offered her some money

as compensation. His girlfriend, Sabina, was a successful model. Presumably, she
worked hard for her career and wanted a handsome and a rich boyfriend.
