Several students shared their excitement for the variety of costumes around the school. Ms. Rivera quickly transitioned jnto an activity where students analyzed the language of a recent work. Many students shared their perspective in regard to diction, word choice and connotation. Volunteers were asked to expand on the answers of their peers. This discussion was followed by an activity where the students analyzed a song, I'm Just a Girl by No Doubt, with a similar topic to the recent work. Ms. Rivera had the students first watch the video without any supporting documents, just encouraging them to watch and listen, After the first run through, she provided lyrics and asked them to pay attention to key words and phrases.
