For almost two years, I have known Krista as an aspiring English teacher, and I have been consistently impressed by her ability, enthusiasm and professionalism. Our most substantial interaction was in the fal! of 2017. During that time, Krista was a leave replacement in the Commack High School English Department. We knew from the interview process that Krista was a stellar candidate, so we were confident that she could handle the challenging schedule of the teacher she replaced, one which included IB Literature and our enriched level of Grade 10. During her time as a leave replacement and then as a substitute, Krista demonstrated all of the characteristics that a department would like to see in a new member. She is passionate about literature and the study of language. Her passion for this knowledge has translated into an impressive and sophisticated command of English Language Arts content and skills. During my observations, Krista’s poise and sincerity were immediately apparent. It is easy to see that teaching is a vocation for her in the adept way that she addresses a class. Outside of the classroom, Krista demonstrated that she is punctual, organized and interested in developing collegiality. During our weekly meetings or after an observation, she was reflective and open to suggestions for improving her craft. Perhaps the best recommendation that I can make is that we would be highly interested in having Krista as a permanent member of the secondary English department in Commack. Unfortunately, there is not much of a prospect for a new probationary position at this time. Iam sure, though, that she will become an important addition to the department she joins.
