Importance of Traffic Engineering in Highway Engineering

What is Traffic Engineering? What is the importance of Traffic Engineering in

Highway Engineering? “Traffic Engineering is a method of civil engineering that help

s to optimize the performance and efficiency of the movement of people, goods, and

transportation. In the field of traffic engineering, engineers must look at the whole pic

ture in order to maximize traffic flow and reduce instanced of congestion: the movem

ent of vehicles on roads and highways; the movement of pedestrians. Through data

collection of road construction, land development, and traffic signals, and build traffic

studies from them–allowing them to come up with new and inventive ways to optimiz

e the construction of roads, freeways, and other forms of ground transportation.”

The importance of road signs has been recognized worldwide because of the i

ncreasing incidence of road accidents due to the volume of traffic and bad habits of

motor vehicle drivers. The warning signs is to attract driver’s attention in the areas w

here his watchfulness has to increase on account of obstacles or of the dangerous p

oints. It is to give the driver miscellaneous information useful in his driving and gener

al driving.

Traffic Engineering provides high efficient traffic flow through ample research

and innovative design efforts, to produce free flow of traffic and use research to desi

gn roadways and highways that increase traffic safety (strategic implementation of st

op signs, traffic signs, and traffic lights)
