MeDonnell developed the “quick-load” concept of check-out and packag: ing of the missiles, These units are assembled in non: critical time periods and are stored as ready-to-go packages SUPPORT EQUIPMENT "The majority of the equipment necessary to handle, maintain and employ the Quail is being developed and manufactured by MeDonnell. ‘The remainder of the equipment is either standard or modified stan: ard equipment in the Air Force inventory. The spe cialized units are tailored to utilize existing services and capabilities wherever possible. Operating per sonnel requirements are minimized with regard to both number and skill level. Hydraulially operated handling trailers provide mobility, and semi-auto- atic electronic consoles provide for system check Air Force maintenance personnel can perform system checks on a “GO-NO GO" basis, and can ‘rouble-shoot deficiencies with a minimum of time And effort The entre support concept for the missile system is designed to implement Quail’ feature of readiness BOMBER CONTROL ‘The controls in the carrier sitraft for operating the rissiles are produced in kit form, The installation of these kits is 4 minor bomber modification, Control panels are installed at the bombardier-navigator's station, These panels along with the wiring, require no modification to the basic bomber structure, All ofthe elements are designed for ease of installation and removal The MeDonnell-developed GAML72 is a complete Phe Quail weapon that ean be efficiently and versatile penetration aid to the B- is a “ready-to-go! ‘maintained and rapidly deployed. ‘This missile i in immediate readiness aboard the bomber and causes ‘complex problems of coordination, These features make the Quail ideally suited for the overall weapon system operation, addition, the GAM bomber threats to the enemy, while representing a very small percentage of bomber system costs to the Air Force, This makes the GAM-T2 Quail low cost ‘means of saving bornbers.and insuring mission success,
