Brake failure is still on top among traffic accident culprits.
Overheat has tremendous effect on
braking performance. Not only does overheat compromise the movement of braking pistons, but also it drastically decreases the friction coefficients, which in turn leads to more energy needed to brake effectively. This condition potentially damages the seal or brake fluid hose and causes brake failure. The car of 1,5 L uses disc braking system with the type of ventilated disc rotor. To find out how to increase the heat release ability of its disc brake, this research investigates 8 models from various automobile as alternative to be synchronized with disc rotor dimension of original 1,5 L model. The design is generated using Solidwork software and simulated using ANSYS software to obtain data of the ongoing heat absorption. The data then compared using mathematical analysis to ensure its optimal result. The simulation showed that disc brake rotor generating the optimal ability to release heat for the type 1,5l vehicle was the drilled disc rotor, the one which was model 7 with 70 rotor holes on the diameter of 5 mm. Using steady state model of data calculation, the model with the lowest average temperature was the most stable one in releasing heat. The first place, which means the best ability in releasing heat, on 596.95oC was held by the model 7, which has ventilation and various holes with various mediation between disc rotors connected to the brake pad with connecting hole to the axis. The second best performing was model 5 on 598,7 oC. This model applies ventilation without holes, but using gap variation between brake pad and the axis connecting holes. The third place was model 1, which is a disk rotor with no-hole ventilation directly connected to brake pad with average temperature of 603,06OC.
