Directional Traffic Count Survey at Intersection (DTC)

Purpose: to understand present turning movement of vehicle at intersection and analyse causes
of traffic congestion within study area.
Methodology: conventional method for DTC survey is recording traffic situation by video
recorder and count the number of vehicles from video data.
While doing counting vehicles, categories of vehicles should be addressed for each 15 minute
interval (ex. Motorbike, car-jeep, passenger van, pick-up car, light truck, heavy truck, bus, cycle,
others..)
Note:
 Survey should be conduct during traffic active time (14~16 hours, ex. from 6:00~20:00).
Avoid special events such as holidays, weekend, and huge accidents before survey date.
 A queue length survey should be conducted on the same day with DTC survey by other
surveyor manually every 15 minutes and at 5 meter interval
 Weather condition and events occurred should be noted
 Pedestrian crossing: should be count for 5 mins interval
1. Traffic Control Survey (TCS)
This survey is to record traffic signal phasing time (seconds for one cycle and each direction)
where traffic signals are working.
