Sub: Provision of HandRailing in small Passenger Lifts
As few members have been inquiring why handrails are
provided on all 3 sides of small elevators. The following information is being provided for guidance:
Small Passenger elevators in our building are 1973 built.
However they are prone to ‘Mechanical jerks’ due to old AC Motors and for Safety M/S Otis provides mandatory handrails on all 3 sides in the cages (whenever new cages are ordered) complying with new ADA Standards 2010, mounted 31 inches to 33 inches above elevator floor. This is a provision towards Safety for elderly people, unless the client does not require same.
