Hi Martha,

I’m Todd Anderson!!! How are you? How is everything going in London? Here in
New York everything is very different: in the city, there are many people and all the
things are very expensive.

A few days ago, I started going at the new school. Well, in fact it’s like a boarding
school and it’s called “Welton Academy”. It’s located on the outskirts of the city and it
seems like you are in a completely different place because it’s all surrounded by
forests and you can’t see the city anywhere. It’s so beautiful… You’d love it so much!

In general, the lessons are as boring as those in London: latin is very complicated,
the chemistry teaches goes very fast, in maths I don’t understand anything and all
the teachers are very strict in everything.
I say in general because there’s a new teacher. It’s called Mr. Keating, but he told us
to call him “O Captain! My Captain!”. You won’t believe it, but he also ordered us to
tear out a page from the textbook because he didn’t agree with what it was written!!
As well, he makes very dynamic lessons and I like it very much. The first class we
had with him, we went to the entrance of the school and we had the lesson there,
last week we went outside in the yard… Every day is different and, as strange as it
seems, this man makes us like the poetry!

Speaking about poetry, I made a group of friends (despite my shyness). One of them
is my roommate and I guess that’s the reason why I started going out with them.
They are called: Neil, Charlie, Knox, Richard, Steven and Gerald. The idea of
creating a group was given to us by the new teacher because when he studied in
this same high school he also had a group, called “Dead Poets Society”. What
makes the group special is that we read and write poetry in order to express our
emotions (also idea of Mr. Keating).

Anyway, I suppose that this are the most exciting things that had happened to me
those days.

I miss you a lot and I want to see you as soon possible!!

Love,

Todd
