For the activities that take place in the Braila Free Area, Romanian or foreign
investors qualify for a number of benefits, as established by the current Romanian
legislation:
- custom duties and excise tax exemption for goods that enter in the free
zone;
- custom duties exemption for vehicles and goods coming from abroad or
other free zones and going to other countries or other free zones;
- the materials and accessories that enter the free zones and are used to
manufacture other goods shall be exempt from customs duties, after the
formalities for export are fulfilled;
- the goods of Romanian origin used for constructions, repairs and
maintenance of objectives within the free zones are free from custom
duties;
- lease of lands and buildings for 50 years at the most;
- encouraging tariffs for concession of land
- possibility of 100% foreign ownership;
- possibility of changing the origin of goods;
- the easiness of import and export clearance through its own customs point.
The Braila Free Area enjoys a very advantageous setting, being divided into
four sectors.
By the effective presence of Braila Free Zone representatives, Border Police
and General Department of Customs, the access to the interior perimeter is
permanent.
The first sector (Site 1) of Braila Free Area covers about 67.8 ha, adjoining the
navigable branch of the Danube as well as the railroad tracks, it is located near the
downstream docks. It can function as a container or grain terminal, probably the only one
on the Danube between Vienna and the Black Sea. The piers can accommodate ships of
up to 8750 TDW, and it is equipped with heavy tonnage cranes, and a storage and
processing platform. Access to the railroad system is through the CFR marshaling yard,
which operates throughout the entire harbor area.
The site is meant for industry activities like: food processing, woodworks, textiles,
footwear, construction materials, finishing and packing operations for metal ware, crude
and fuel oil storage, etc.
Site 3 of Braila Free Zone, with 7.01 ha area, is located right in the heart of Braila
city, between the Harbour Station and the Fishery where the sea-going ships berths
operate.
The platform has a rail network located between the Debarcader Street and the quay,
that serves the berths from the docks basin.
The site equipped with modern facilities offers for rental office space, covered
warehouses and platforms for storage containers.
The main activities carried out in this site are light industry, wholesale, retail trade,
storage services, banking operations.
