WAYS to LEARN ABOUT and WORK AGAINST RACISM

Join the SURJ Lunch-n-Learn on October 23 ​at 12:30pm at Vienna Coffee house. We will be
discussing Bryan Stevenson’s video regarding mass incarceration and capital punishment as

Attend “Intersecting Identities and Movements for Social Justice” - Oct 22 - 6pm - a
roundtable of four speakers participating in multiracial work with delegations from the US
learning about Palestine and Israel - ​@the Beck Cultural Exchange Center, 1927 Dandridge
Avenue, Knoxville. Sponsored by Knoxville Women in Black.

Explore​​ ​how slavery, the Civil War, and the Jim Crow era are being taught in your local
schools. ​Are students learning about post-Civil war convict leasing (the parent to our mass
incarceration system), the cultural contributions of people of color, or Japanese internment

Donate to anti-racism work such as Blount County United, our local NAACP chapter, ​Black
Lives Matter, Southern Poverty Law Center, United Negro College Fund, Black Youth Project
100, or other anti-racist organizations. Join their list-servs and take actions they recommend.

Join a local group focused on eliminating racism: (1) Attend a BLOUNT COUNTY UNITED
meeting​​: 4​th​ Sat. October 27th at 1:00 pm St. Paul AME Zion Church, Maryville or ​(2)​​ ​Join
the Alcoa/Blount branch of NAACP​​: 4​th​ Sat. October 27th at 11:45 am at St. Paul AME Zion.
