MACHINE LEARNING AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SPORTS

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to showcase the impact Analytics has on the Sports Industry and how the
right implication of analytics can reap immediate benefits for the industry. The sports industry
is completely different from what it was before with the business side taking a long hop.
Whether it be any sport, it’s not just played between two teams.
In today’s sporting world, you see successful teams using analytics largely for two purposes.
The first is to connect and interact with their fans and to increase their fan base through
various platforms. The other is to enhance their performance through opposition analysis or
their own player monitoring.
All of this data provides analysts with a bank of information to use in machine learning
models for optimising sporting predictions and inferences. The capabilities of sports analytics
ranges from predicting the outcome of a game to analysing team and individual performance
in order to build new strategies.
