Kimmons, Sean. “D-Day Veterans Describe 'Total Chaos' of Beach Landings.” U.S.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE, U.S. Department of Defense, 6 June 2017,

dod.defense.gov/News/Article/Article/1205409/d-day-veterans-describe-total-chaos-of-

beach-landings/.

It’s a primary source because the article extracts pieces of information provided by the interview of a
man named Herman Zeitchik who was an Army Corporal of the United States Army, now a 94-year-old
man and considered a World War II veteran. He describes his experience since he was in the time and
place of D-Day so it is a primary source. It helped our entry by having first-hand experience and
perspective of what the event was really like. This perspective and experience support the writing
process be more justifiable in my answer to the research question.

Eisenhower, Dwight D. “D-Day Order of the Day .” National Archives, The U.S. National Archives and

Records Administration, 6 June 1944, www.archives.gov/research/military/ww2/d-day.

It’s a primary source because it is the original document that was sent to soldiers, sailors and airmen of
the Allied Expeditionary Force during June 5 to 6 of 1944. As it is a document issued to the Allied
Expeditionary Force, it is reasonable that this is a printed copy to accommodate for the sheer size of the
Force’s population but the information and details of the original remains the same so it is considerably
a primary source. It helped our entry by possibly confirming my thinking that the Allies had conducted
D-Day for the sake of their ideology, reason, the effective motivation or propaganda by Dwight D.
Eisenhower to why many soldiers of the Allied Expeditionary Force willingly came for the Invasion of
Normandy in the name of Operation Neptune.
“Full Interview: Herman Zeitchik.” YouTube, American Veterans Center, 30 June 2017,

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Vt0nRynoFY.

It is a primary source since of its nature of being an interview with one american veteran named Herman
Zeitchik. It is the full interview of said veteran, it helped our entry by explaining a soldier’s perspective of
the actual operation Neptune that took place.

“Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel Inspects the 21st Panzer Division in May 1944.”

WORLD WAR II TODAY, WWII Today , 1944,

ww2today.com/8-may-1944-21st-panzer-division-prepares-for-war-in-normandy.

It is a primary source due to it being an image taken from the events of World War II. The picture shows
the General Field Marshal Erwin Rommel inspecting the 21st Panzer Division that will clash with british
forces in the battle of Caen.

Huard, Paul. “German Soldiers Using the MG 42.” Medium , 28 Oct. 2014,

cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/2600/1*vfc5tfKi-PMsxmwVuCZEqw.jpeg.

It is a primary source of an image being taken of German soldiers using the renowned MG 42. It helped
our entry understand more about the machine gun placements and tactics the Nazis would use against
the Allies.
“Soldiers Coming Ashore at Normandy on D-Day.” National World War 2 Mueseum,

National Archives and Records Administration,

www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/d-day-allies-invade-europe.

The picture is a primary source. It was taken on D-Day at Normandy Beach. The picture showcases Allied
soldiers, specifically the U.S. This source is beneficial as it helps create a better picture of the event
through their perspective.

Secondary

“D-Day: The Invasion of Normandy.” History, www.historyonthenet.com/d-day.

It’s a Secondary source because the author of the website was not at the event of Normandy Landing
during place and time. The source is very detailed as it is a secondary source. The source also does not
have many pictures to support that it is a primary source making it a secondary source. Most of the
information is just retelling what happened before and after the Normandy Landing. It helped my
research by giving me detailed information about the events that occurred before the Normandy
Landing and after. The source also gives the statistics of the event such as how many troops were
deployed, number of troops in the platoon and the death toll. Some pictures were clear and can help me
understand better and in the perspective of the people during the time of the event.

Carter , Ian. “Why D-Day Was So Important to Allied Victory.” Imperial War Museums, IWM ,

8 Dec. 2018, www.iwm.org.uk/history/why-d-day-was-so-important-to-allied-victory.

It’s a secondary source because it’s a website that explains the importance of D-Day to the victory of the
Allies in the end of World War II. This source is the main website of the Imperial War Museum which
means that the information provided is historically true but since it is professional historians who have
explained it, it cannot be deemed a primary source since the writer was most likely not in the place and
time of D-Day. It helped our by providing the clear answers since my research question is “How did the
Normandy Landings affect the Allies?”, and the source’s main point is the importance of D-Day or the
Normandy Landings to Allied victory which can clearly help me organize my answer to the research
question.

Keegan, John. “Normandy Invasion.” Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.,

6 Sept. 2018, www.britannica.com/event/Normandy-Invasion.

It’s a secondary source because it is a digital encyclopedia that has explained primary sources in the
words of professional scholars. The information that is provided in this encyclopedia summarizes the
facts from primary sources, and divides sub-events that occurs in the main event. It helped my research
by organizing each piece of information in order to help me plan the writing process on answering the
research question. The information has been written as a simplified explanation of multiple situations;
allows me to be able to fit the most important details into the website.

“The Allied Campaign in Western Europe.” Britannica Kids , Encyclopædia Britannica,

Inc., cdn.britannica.com/38/110738-004-C6C45CD0.jpg.

It’s a secondary source because it is a digital image created by a digital encyclopedia. The information
provided by the image is the campaign the Allies were planning to retake Western Europe from Nazi
Germany. It helped our entry by simplifying the movement and route of the Allies plan.
