Abstract
The Himalayan Formation and Tethys Ocexxan closure were spectacular events in the history of
earth, Thousands kilometer of sedimentary rocks, oceanic crust, island are have been
compressed, folded and elevated into just 500 km stretch of mountain belt which has been cut by
the Indus River and tributaries at least since Pliocene, The Wester China Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC) Project Route serves as a cross section exposing geological units and structures
of the Eurasian Plate, Kohistan Island Are, Tethys Ocean and Indian Plate. The huge outcrops
along the traverse are present nowhere in the world. Every outcrop section along the traverse
carries its own secret geological history that has attracted geologists from every comer of the
earth, The Westem CPEC route will pass from the Khunjerab Pass through Gilgit, Jijal, Besham,
Swat, Peshawar, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Mughal Kot, Zhob, Quetta, Khuzdar and Panjgur to
Gawadar. Apart from economic perspective, this western CPEC route passes through unmatched
geological features which have got the potential to be declared as the global geo-parks. Some of
these geological features include the Main Karakoram Thrust (MKT), Kohistan Island Are
(KIA), Fi
Complex, Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) near Kohat, Trans Indus Ranges Thrust (Trans Indus
| Complex, Main Mantle Thrust (MMT), Mingora Emerald mines, Nowshehra Reef
Ranges) near Lakki, Sulaiman Fold Belt (Mughal Kot-Zhob), Zhob Valley Ophiolites, Pishin
Basin, Chaman Fault near Khuzdar and Makran Accretionary Prism.
