Dear Ms. Davis,

I will write my Pride Paper on the registered dietitian nutritionist career. I chose this topic
because I value eating healthy, and living a healthy lifestyle. I love to exercise and make healthy
meals, and believe this healthy mindset would allow myself to pursue the career of a registered
dietitian nutritionist. I also value helping others lead a healthy lifestyle. I always try to
encourage my dad to make healthy decisions, such as going on runs with him, or cooking healthy
dinners together. I understand the importance of this career, and realize the importance this
career will have in future years as well. Obesity rates continue to rise in America, and
individuals need to educate themselves on how to eat healthier and exercise more frequently.
Registered dietitian nutritionists can greatly help in educating the public on leading healthier
lives. They can also assist in a more one-on-one manner by creating personalized meal plans for
those who desire. This career has such an important role in creating a healthy future for not only
our nation, but our world.

My paper will describe the general responsibilities of this career, and the many places an
individual of this career can work in. I will also provide information on the average salary of a
registered dietitian nutritionist, and the average growth for employment outlook. I plan to use
EBSCOhost for finding this research, and I also plan on interviewing a current nutritionist for a
more personal account of what this career looks like. Some of the resources I have already
acquired from EBSCOhost includes an article titled "Is Your Nutritionist Registered?”, and
another article titled "Health Diagnosing and Treating Practitioners: Dietitians and Nutritionists."
I will use the first resource to discuss the skill set used by a registered dietitian nutritionist, and
the appropriate training one needs to receive the title of a registered dietitian nutritionist. I will
use the latter resource to describe the many workplace environments that a registered dietitian
nutritionist has the opportunity to work in.

This paper will help me prepare to follow a mentor in this career by giving me an understanding
of the responsibilities of a registered dietitian nutritionist, so that I become aware of them, and
can watch for them in practice. I plan on receiving my mentor hours from a woman named Zan
who works with the residents of my old neighborhood. I have talked to Zan on several
occasions, and I value the relationship she strives to create with her clients. I would love to
watch how a registered dietitian nutritionist interacts with their clients in real practice, and what
types of questions they ask when putting together their client’s meal plan. To complete my Pride
Project in my senior year, I plan to create my own original granola bar directed at those
individuals who need a quick, healthy food option, but often have a hard time finding the time to
make themselves a healthy snack. This project will take me at least ten hours because I want to
make sure I not only create a healthy granola bar, but a tasty one as well. I will have to plan out
several ingredient combinations, and then test these combinations, and then revise and test even
more. I plan on sticking to certain requirements, such as keeping under two hundred calories,
and trying to include at least ten grams of protein, so this will take a good amount of time to get
the measurements and ingredients right. To make the granola bar, I will use the internet to do a
lot of research on what makes a granola bar stick together, what contains a high concentration of
protein, and much more. I will also watch videos, and possibly get opinions from a local
registered dietitian nutritionist on how to create the perfect granola bar.

As a student, I value working hard and never cheating. I understand that any form of plagiarism,
intentional or unintentional, in my Pride Paper will result in a zero. I will uphold the Pine Lake
Preparatory honor code when writing my essay, and throughout the rest of my classes at Pine
Lake Preparatory.

Sincerely,

Jessica Mastor
