My special mission is to preach the gospel to the poor.  I believe that churches
should be as free as the grace we preach.  The Lord allowed me to be thrust
out as I was, because He saw that in this manner this work could be carried on
to the best advantage.  The work is progressing and I expect to live to see
FREE churches all over the land-especially in the cities where the poor are

The Free Methodist Church of
Davison, in Genesee County,
was organized in 1880 with
seven charter members. For
several years services were
held in the town hall.

A schoolhouse was purchased

in 1887 from the village, It
was moved to the corner of
first and Davison streets and
remodeled into a church
under the labors of the
pastor, W. N. Pittenger.

In 1957, in order to meet the
challenge of their growing
Sunday school constituency,
the old church and fellowship
hall were sold and a new
location was purchased on
Church Street. The new
property was large enough to
assure adequate parking and
ample room for a new
parsonage.

On February 20, 1979, fire
destroyed the greater part of
the church.
Pastor Ross Wilder and the
congregation met for Sunday
services in the junior high
school and for midweek
services in the (Davison)
United Methodist Church while
new facilities were under
construction. …
The facilities were first used
on May 25, 1980 and were
dedicated by Bishop Robert F.
Andrews on September 7,
1980.
