Therapist's office, warm but sterile.

Denice, 55, larger woman with twinkling eyes, wiry gray hair,
She has a soft, warm look to her.

Denice sits down with a clipboard, and puts on her glasses.

DENICE
Well Ms. Jay, why don't we start with
why you came in today?

Jay, 19 Nervous, Tired, in a large chair, She has squashed


herself into one corner of the chair, and holds one of the
throw pillows on her lap.

JAY
My friends are worried about me.

DENICE
And why is that?

Jay is very still at that question, not making eye contact.

CAR- NIGHT 6

Jay has just parked at her dorm, she rummages in her bag
about to get out of the car. A song plays on the radio.

SONG ON RADIO
Meet me in the hotel lobby...

Jay stops listening intently. Delusion scroll starts behind


her:

Meet me. Meet me. Meet me. Meet me.

She looks down at her car radio. In the same glitchy style as
the Thought Text Scroll the station numbers reconstruct and
translate into:

MESSAGE

Jay pulls out her phone quickly searching as the song


continues. Hotels pictures and their names appear behind her
in the Thought Text Scroll. The numbers for reviews and
ratings float slightly out of place in the display. She looks
through them, swiping them aside one by one, faster and
faster, until she reaches one with just a gray place holder
picture.

Mary Ann Inn, 2.8 miles away. 9 reviews.

The numbers and letters reconstruct to say:

THIS ONE

Jay restarts her car and peels out. She drives through
winding neighborhood streets passing a water tower with an
Eagle mascot painted on it.

The song has changed. A lyric catches her attention:

SONG ON RADIO
Set it on fire.

Jay glances at the lighter in her cup holder, hesitates, and


tucks it in her pocket as she drives.

PARK- NIGHT 7

Jay steps out of her car, looking at her phone. The maps app

on the screen is displayed in the Thought Text Scroll behind


her.

You have Arrived

Jay looks around the park. No one is around.

She walks past the play ground slowly,looking around with her
phone flashlight. She picks through a trash can, unwrapping
cigarette stubs.Thought Text Scroll:

Message inside, have to find it. They aren't here. Must have
left something.

A white car screeches to a halt several feet ahead of her.


tossing something out of the window and driving away again.

Jay watches the car speed away and walks slowly out into the
street. She looks down, finding no sign of what they threw.

There is a loud revving sound down the street where the car
had gone. Jay looks up and the white car drives past her
going the opposite direction. Her phone beeps

Low Battery

The flashlight turns off and she looks down one last time,
giving up on finding what ever it was, and dashes to her car.

CAR- NIGHT 8

Jay starts her car tossing her phone aside. And follows after
the white car.

They turn out of the dark neighborhoods, and onto a dirt


road.

All sight of houses are gone. There are fields on either


side. Thought Text Scroll:

This is Crazy. This is Crazy. This is Crazy.

JAY
This isn't crazy. (beat) Right?

A black truck appears from around the corner in front of her


car honking their horn. Jay slams on the breaks as the truck
passes and the white car disappears from sight.

JAY

Jay follows where the white car went, but reaches an


intersection. She has lost them. She lets her head fall back
into the headrest sighing.

She looks around. Thought Text Scroll:

JAY

D'S OFFICE- INTERIOR DAY 9

DENICE
Well Jay how about I get to know you a
little better? How did last semester
go?

JAY
Good? I kept my GPA at a 3.65 so I
kept my scholarship I-

DENICE
(laughs) well, that good but that
doesn't tell me how it went for you.

JAY
oh. (beat)

Jay makes a face "like I don't know what you want from me"

DENICE
well how 'bout you tell me what you
do?

JAY
I'm a double major Psychology and
Theatre student?...(searching)I act..?
(she draws out the last statement
hoping that this answer is sufficient)

DENICE
oh fun! This is a really good down for
it with the festival.

honest, running around like an idiot
in a wig is significantly more fun
than actually doing work.

DENICE

Yeah, I got a few good ones.

MARTIN'S HOUSE- EXTERIOR NIGHT 10

Jay knocks on Martin's apartment door and is let in.

(Martin laughs. He gets up walking towards the kitchen)

Martin rummages in the cupboards for a pot.

JAY
How you doing?

(passionately) Tired

JAY
I'm sorry man.

MARTIN
It's alright, my brain is just being a
dick and I just can't sleep you know?

JAY
Yeah, if you ever need anything just
text me. I can... I don't know take
you out for burritos or something.

MARTIN
I'll have to take you up on that.

The sound of the front door opening.

LOUISE (OFF SCREEN)

MARTIN'S HOUSE INTERIOR 13

Everyone has pretty much fallen asleep. The T.V. casts


dancing lights across the couches. Lemon and Louise are on
one couch, Martin is laying in Jay's lap, entirely asleep.

Louise gets up, walking passed Jay

LOUISE
I'm gonna go to bed, I'll see you at
home.

JAY
okay

LEMON
yeah, I'm headed to bed too. G'night!

JAY
G'night, I'll wake him up and make him
go to bed after this episode.

Time continues to pass, Martin doesn't wake up. Jay


absentmindedly runs her fingers gently through his hair,
getting closer and closer to falling asleep with each shot.

MARTIN'S HOUSE MORNING 14

Jay is asleep leaning on the arm of the chair, Martin is


still asleep on her lap. The T.V. is still droning.

Lemon comes down the stairs. Jay wakes up.

LEMON
Did you sleep here?

JAY
Apparently, whoops

Lemon laughs and goes to the front door

LEMON
(loud whisper) Paarrrty!

The door closes behind Lemon, waking Martin up.

JAY
Oh, hi (smiling at him, and
stretching.)

Did I fall asleep on you?

JAY
Looks, like it. I don't know how
though, that doesn't look comfortable.

Martin stretches out from his odd positon on the couch and
sits up picking his glasses up off the side table.

MARTIN
I don't know, I think that's the most
I've slept in ages.

JAY
r.i.p. Well, I'm gonna go home,
Louise's probably woken up and
wondering where I ended up.

MARTIN
cool

Jay puts on her shoes and goes to the door.

JAY
(joking) If you ever can't sleep, we
can have another sleep over. I'll
knock you right out.

(She pantomimes a whacking him over the head and laughs)

JAY
See ya.

CLASSROOM 15

Jay sits doodling in the margins of her notes, she's drawing


a boys face, he has curly hair.A professor paces, lecturing
very animated.

PROFESSOR CALLHOON
-and so at this point Segismundo has
been drugged, and convinced he's
dreamed everything he knows he's like-
'listen I don't know if anything is
real'-

Jay looks down at her drawing and her vision glitches for a
split second. The boy in the drawing is running towards her.
Jay is no longer paying attention, She looks down at her
drawing, recognition in her eyes.

Jay's vision shifts suddenly, like a memory, she sees THE


CURLY HAIRED BOY.

THE CURLY HAIRED BOY is Jay's age, with brown curly hair.

The Curly Haired boy is running toward the camera/Jay.

Jay looks up Callhoon is still lecturing.

PROFESSOR CALLHOON
remember all that life is but a dream
stuff? But he's king now and he's like
"I have no freaking clue whether I’m
dreaming or not. But in case I’m not I
am going to do the right thing.

The bell rings, Jay rushes out, packing the drawing away.

HALLWAY- INTERIOR 16

Jay gets a text. Though text:

Martin: Hey. Burritos?

Jay: Yeah, of course. I'll be right over. You okay?

Martin: Just a low day.

ALFREDO'S/ALBERTO'S A MEXICAN FOOD- INTERIOR 17

Jay sits across from Martin in a Tex-Mex restaurant. Jay


examines her Styrofoam cup it says Alberto's A Mexican Food

Wait, didn't the sign outside say
Alfredo's?

MARTIN
What?

JAY
The cup say's Alberto's, but isn't
this place called Alfredo's?

He looks at his cup and a sign above the counter. They both
say Alberto's.

Whaaaat?

JAY
We crossed a bridge, dude we're in
another dimension.

MARTIN
(laughing) and the only difference is
the name of this restaurant?

JAY
(joking) yeah, this whole town was
already- wait!

Jay points to another sign it says Alfredo's. She slaps the


table excitedly.

JAY
Oh my god

MARTIN
Does this place just have two names?

JAY
Apparently

An EMPLOYEE calls from the counter

Martin and Jay both start to get up

Martin sits back down, Jay comes back with a tray of

MARTIN
I'm okay, I just, today was really
just a really grumpy low and I'm tired
of being tired all the time

JAY
I'm sorry man, that sucks. Whats been
going on?

Just school I guess, I'm failing
capstone. And when I mentioned it in
group therapy they weren't really
helpful.

JAY
If you want we could do homework
together? Keep each other company?

MARTIN
That sounds nice. How are you doing?

JAY
I'm okay... I- There's a lot
happening. But I'm fine, I'm good. I'm
fine.

MARTIN
Whats up?

JAY
I'm good never mind

MARTIN
Are you okay?

JAY
(beat) I don't know... its like. It's
like I'm popping in an out of reality
or something. Like one minute I'm
completely fine- but I have one foot
here and one foot somewhere else and
I- I'm seeing things?...

I think I'm loosing my mind.

Jay's eyes are wide and her hands are flat on the table like
she's trying to hold her self down. Her eyes well with tears,
but she doesn't blink and she doesn't look at Martin.

JAY
-I.. don't know whats happening. I'm
sorry I never mind. I didn't mean to
hijack your burritos trip. I'm sorry

Martin grabs one of her hands, searching her face, concerned.

MARTIN
Hey, you're okay. It's okay.

Jay continues to look down. Calming her breath.

MARTIN
you (beat) you don't have to tell me
anything you don't want to and- tell
me if I'm overstepping but (beat) have
you thought about maybe going to CAPS?

JAY
CAPS?

MARTIN
It's the counseling program on campus
its were I go for group, but I've been
thinking I might want to sign up for
individual again. I could go with you
to sign up if that would make it
easier.

JAY
I don't think I (beat) yeah... Yeah
that sounds like a good idea.

CAR- INTERIOR 18

Jay is driving, the radio plays

VOICE IN SONG

Jay sees the car she had followed before on that night at the
park. The car flashes their lights 4 times. Numbers and
messages begin to float in there Thought Text Scroll. The
station number shutters. Jay grips the steering wheel.

The radio gets louder and the car turns off the road into a
side street. Thought Text:

Turn now! Before they disappear again, chase them! Don't you
want to know what's happening? They need help! They need your

JAY
No. Shut up! SHUT UP!

Jay slams the radio off

JAY
This isn't real

Thought Text:

That was the only thing that is real. THIS isn't real. Go
Back. NO, go back. Loosing them! GO BACK! NO

JAY'S DORM ROOM- INTERIOR 19

Jay pushes her laptop aside. She stretches and closes her
eyes. The second her eyes close everything goes gray. We see
what she sees. She sees the gray room. The Curl Haired Boy
looks beaten and bruised he is being held up by to people in
uniform

Jay gasps and stumbles back, opening her eyes. In her thought
text we see her drawing of the Curly haired boy and the
memory of "don't forget me..."

Thought Text:

They have him. A prisoner. They have him.

Jay steps back blinking back tears. Like a strobe effect


every time she blinks we see The Curly Haired Boy thrown to
the ground in front of her.

JAY
No!

Jay falls to her knees, eye wide.

JAY

DENICE
It's sounds like this is causing you a
lot of distress, would it be alright
with you if I sent some of this to
some of my colleagues?

Jay looks nervous

DENICE
Dr. Nelson is a Psychiatrist that
works with us and I'd like to see what
we can do about getting you on
medication.

JAY

DENICE
I think it would really help you.

JAY
I just don't think its a great idea to
medicate me if we don't even know what
it is yet.

DENICE
I understand, I was also going to ask
if you'd be willing to be evaluated
for diagnosis.

JAY

I can't be hospitalized. No! Is that a threat? I'd loose my


mind in there. I need to keep busy.

JAY
(reluctantly) if you think it will
help.

DENICE
I think it will.

DIAGNOSIS SEQUENCE- (NOTE) 21

Shots switch rapidly, and what the doctors say begin to


overlap and become overwhelming- Flooring at "Schizophrenia"

Dr. Nelson sits in an overstuffed chair in dim light across


from Jay who looks very nervous.

DR. NELSON is a lanky white man with unsympathetic features.

Emily sits on a small chair reaching out to shake hands. Her


office is bright and colorful.

EMILY is a young woman with tasteful tattoos peeping out of


the sleeves of her cardigan. She has a kind face.

Emily pops back into focus, extending a hand to shake.

Jay stands up leaving the room with Denise and Emily

DENICE
Do you want to come back to my office
and talk about this

JAY
(wanting to escape) No, no I'm okay

Jay's eyes are still tearing up as Denice leads her down the
hall to her office.

The door to Denice's office closes behind them but through


pane of glass on the door we see Jay crumple into the chair,
head in hands sobbing.

CAR- INTERIOR DAY 46

Jay sits in the parking lot of CAPS. Her face is red and raw.
She looks drained.

Her phone buzzes with a text from Martin.

Martin: Hey, is your appointment over? Offer still stands if


you want to come over?

Jay: That sounds nice.

Martin: Alright, see you in a sec.

Jay sets down her phone and takes a deep breath. She starts
her car and pulls out

Jay walks up to the door and is let in.

Martin greets her with a hug. Jay's face is still puffy and

(trying to joke) My face hurts

Did they have a diagnosis I know
they've been postponing for a couple
of weeks-

Jay hugs Martin tighter, he looks down trying to see her


face.

MARTIN

JAY

MARTIN
oh, Jay. Are you okay.

Jay shrugs her shoulder, trying not to cry

MARTIN

Martin pulls her into another hug

Jay leans into the hug briefly before wiping away the tears
in her eyes.

(abruptly) ugh! I need a nap!

Jay laughs, tying to break the mood.

MARTIN
(Concerned but supportive) That can be
arranged.

He tosses a blanket from the couch over her head, burying


her.

JAY
Perfect.

She lets herself fall over into Martin's lap shrouded in a


layer of blanket like a ghost.

ESTABLISHING SHOT- NIGHT 49

Jay and her dorm mate Louise, enter an apartment.

Louise is short and fashionable, died hair and piercings.

INTERIOR MARTIN'S APARTMENT 50

Jay and Louise enter and LEMON and Martin greet them.

LEMON, 22 beautiful, chubby, curly haired girl.

pulled up. She looks at the circles. And swipes the search to
the side opening up images. She swipes down to the ninth one.

Jay scrambles back blinking rapidly. Every blink brings a


flash of the shadowy room and the man quickly getting closer.

Jay is up against the wall eyes wide open, breathing rapidly.


(Beat.) She slowly closes her eyes. Nothing, just the
staticky blackness behind her eyelids.

She looks at it and thought text pops up.

Jay hurries down the ladder. About half way down she stops
swiping at her neck like something has touched her. She looks
around. Nothing is there. She continues down, flinching again
She hops off the ladder holding the back of her neck looking
around. There is still nothing around her. She flinches
again,ans again she continues to jerk away swatting at
nothing, becoming more frantic.

Every time she blinks faces loom over her.

They're moving me, they're STOP TOUCHING ME they're


paralyzing me. STOP

The image we see shifts rapidly between the Jay here, and the
Jay in the Gray Room. Hands grabbing at her face and
shoulders as another pair of hands with green cuffed sleeves.
Shove a thick needle into her neck at the base of her skull.

She shoves the air, and stands still, trying to ignore it.

Jay grabs the bucket of gels and hurries on stage. She is

Jay hurries back stage and down into the trap room. She's

Jay is kneeling on the cement floor beside a lifeless Curly


Haired boy. There is a chair with restraints behind her. Here
her face is not expressionless. She sobs cradling his head in
her hands. We hear no sound in the Gray Room

Jay, still expressionless here, pushes the body off her bed.
He falls to the ground next to two other bodies. A woman with
a short black pixie cut and a blond man with glasses (both
her age).

Jay crawls to the two other bodies, on the floor. Sobbing.


THE MAN stands in the background, flanked by two people in
uniform. We don't see their faces.

Jay lays down between the two bodies, The Curly Haired boy

her.

don't have anything to. I could't give
them a real funeral- I could gather
their friends or family because I'm
the only one who knows that they
exsis- and I cant even remember them
I- couldn't say their names, or take
comfort in memories of them. I can't
mourn them they took that away from
me.

Jay's words are coming out broken as she cries. She is in so


much pain.

DENICE
I can see that this is very real to
you-

JAY
(louder, Angry and guilty) He told me
not to forget him. He begged me not
to. And I did! I can't remember him. I
just have his face and I can't even-

DENICE
Jay I need you to calm-

JAY
I know them, I know I do. I can't
remember their names or anything about
them but I know I loved them. I love
them so much, and I miss them. I know
they were like family because I feel
like THIS. And they're dead because of
me! I didn't listen and it's my fault-

dead, three people she loves are dead, because she didn't

hitches, she can't breathe smoothly. Tears run down her face,
this is not a controlled cry. This is real grief and guilt
that she can't shake.

I know your supposed to say they're
not real, but how can this hurt so

Jay pulls her laptop onto her lap closing down windows.
Martin sits down next to her and she moves the computer
clearing her lap for him. He doesn't lay down. She looks at
him and he leans in and so does she.

Jay and Martin lay asleep in the bed, a laptop, paused on the

A shadowy figure looms by the bed.

Martin wakes up, and pulls Jay close.

Jay looks back, and there is no one there. She still looks
worried but turns back to Martin who's already fallen back
asleep. She watches him breath for a moment and closes her

Electrician for my production hours
I'm not getting payed so I'm behind on
bills,And my mom can't afford to help

And I know my dad could afford to help
me he goes to Hawaii every few months-
he just won't or he'll have stings
attached- And he'll give me a lecture-
it's not like I haven't been working,
and I haven't spent money on anything
but bills and food.

Martin stops overwhelmed, tears in his eyes. Jay pulls him


into a hug.

JAY
Hey, you're gonna be okay. I can help,
I can buy you some groceries.

MARTIN
No, I can't make you do that

JAY
Try to stop me. Otherwise I'll just
have to come over and make you Alfredo
for every meal. You can't stop me, I'm
your dad now.

Jay sits in the chair squished into the corner of it's arms a

from her as usual.

Jay stands on an edge looking down at the ground far below.


Her jacket, and phone, and wrench are in a pile on the ground
beside her. She doesn't seem agitated, but her expression is
blank, unfamiliar, characterless. There are fresh X's cut
into her arm. Delusion-text translates the cuts visually:

I'm Coming.

Jay steps closer to the edge staring blankly down.

The following are shown in quick succession, switching and


confusing, Glitchy.

Glitchy- Visual of Jay jumping- stepping of the edge, leaning


forward

Short flash of Jay still standing on the edge holding onto


the wall.

Glitchy- Jay falling through the ground waking with a gasp in


the Grey Room, she is in the chair with the light and ceiling
fan above her.

Jay leaning forward on the edge, still holding on

THE GRAY ROOM 100

Jay fights against restraints and rips needle out of the back
of her neck,collapsing on the floor.

As the wires detach there are flashes of the "real world".

Alarms begin to flash in the Grey Room,it's over. Jay can


hardly get up off the floor.

Uniformed people burst into the room, we don't see their


faces. They pull Jay up, and she fights back falling back to
the floor. The one who had grabbed her kneels down, gently
tipping her face up. She sees The Curly Haired Boy. He is
alive.

There is chaos around them we hear yelling and scuffles.But


Jay's focus is on him and on the two others with him- the
faces she had seen dead.

Recognition: flashes of "Don't forget me, Don't you dare


forget me", and their faces dead on the floor of the Grey
Room.

against the wall, and slides down to the floor.

Camera focuses on his name, and then the faces of her family
