INTRODUCTION
Menarche is an important event for all girls. The onset of menstruation is a physiological
and psychological milestone in a woman’s reproductive life. As the most discrete event of
female puberty, menarche is a sign post of physical maturity and fertility. Adolescent girls
constitute to be vulnerable group particularly in India where female child is neglected one.

METHODOLOGY
A non experimental research design was selected for 50 adolescent girls with age group
of 11 to 14 years who have attained menarche within one year. Probability convenient sampling
technique was used. Level of anxiety was assessed using a standard tool and socio –
demographic data was assessed.
FINDINGS
The results revealed that about 26(52%) adolescent girls had severe anxiety, 21(42%) had
moderate anxiety and 3(6%) had mild anxiety with the mean score 36.88. There was significant
increase in anxiety on menarche with chi – square value 30.68 at p< 0.05 level of significance.
