type when instructed. Operates with no visible leaks. Engine stops operating when key
is turned off.

Battery Carrier: Semi-gloss black with appropriate attaching parts. Hold down clamp
mounted correctly, groove fits in carrier, centering tab present. Mounting bolt and nut –
phosphate & oil. 65 through 5S328 have trunk mount battery with vented caps. 65 from
5S328 have standard front mounting as Mustang.
Starter Solenoid and Junction Block: Correct reddish brown (early) or black (later)
FoMoCo™ marked unit, mounted properly, with fine tread posts and thin nuts with
integrated star washers. Mounted on passenger side inner fender panel near the
battery and before shock tower.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT

end) with ink-stamp. Natural starter post.

Air Cleaner and Filter: 14-inch open element air cleaner with chrome lid, zinc wing nut
and gold base. Correct zinc wing nut. Correct filter style and type for year and model.
Exhaust Manifolds: Proper design, painted black tri-Y headers with small head heat
treated bolts at heads.
Gaskets: white in color.

Coil: FoMoCo or Autolite with yellow ceramic top. Mounted in correct location with

Fuel Pump: Original button top upper body, zinc dichromate lower steel body, original
design and location, mounted with correct hardware Marked CARbureTer. Canister filter
at pump, white canister with red print, hex base canisters not allowed.
Hood Hinges and Springs: Phosphate and oil finish. Early production equipped
with semi-gloss black prop rod properly mounted (with zinc bolt catch) and no
hood springs. Later production used special smaller springs and no prop rod.
Fender and Inner Fender Bolts: Original color and style. Correct phosphate and oil
finish. Painted bolts not allowed. Star washers, disc washers or combination acceptable.
Firewall Sound Deadener (Sealant): At proper locations on the firewall including all
areas where components come through the firewall, such as wiring and heater motor.
No sealant on Shelby added looms and wires or engine ground strap and mounting
screw.

by additional bolt on passenger side. Click pins with no lanyard wire.

Door, Painted Surfaces, Door Edges and Jambs: Correct for car (black low luster)
and style for interior. Grain completely visible on metal surfaces. Includes door ends
and bottom. Painted as exterior. Fender bolt (phosphate/oil) and fender pad (natural
unpainted rubber) should be present.
Door Weather-strip, Scuff Plates and Labels: Original style and finish in original
location with yellow glue. Sill plate labels, 6S001 thru 6S252“Shelby American Inc.”
logo, after6S252 “Shelby American Inc. Los Angeles California” logo (very early 65 may
have standard Ford logo).
Door Hardware: Includes latching mechanisms and hinges. Original style mounted in
original location. Door latch striker body – galvanized.
Seats: Correct seat and style for year. Black standard interior.
Carpet and Kick Panels: Original molded type carpet. Early units have serge edges
except at firewall, no toe pad and vinyl strip from floor pan to scuff plate. Vinyl strip is
black. Phosphated screws in proper locations. No dimmer switch grommet. Carpet on
top of firewall pad.
Kick Panels: Correct style and mounting hardware.
Underdash Area, Pedal Assembly, Firewall Cover and Shifter: Original style and
finish. Mounted in original location.
Pedals: Brake marked DISC BRAKE. Brake/Clutch pedal arms bottom 2/3rds are black,
accelerator pedal arm, phosphate/oil. No stainless trim on pads.
Accelerator Arm: Phosphate and oil.
Shifter: As factory Mustang
Hand Choke: Marked with white C, Mounted correctly under drivers side of dash.
Heater: Original style, proper hardware and finish mounted in original location. Heater
plenum, heater box, controls and ducting. Very early units with no red resistor on case
and/or three wire blower motors.
INTERIOR

Dash Hardware, Steering Column and Wheel Assembly: Original style and finish.
Mounted in original location. Horn switch located between dash bezel and radio hole.

Steering Wheel: Real wood-rimmed only. All with Shelby center cap.
Radio: Ford. Correct for year. Dial face – early start with “6” later with “5”. Radio names
may be other than FORD and may vary.
Radio Delete Panel: Correct color, style and year.
Glove Box and Contents: Must have glove box light with lens stapled in place.
Contents to include correct style and year, ’65 Mustang and Shelby owner's manuals
plus the High Performance manual.
Tachometer, Horn Switch and Gauge Pod: Original type and style mounted in correct
location with proper hardware. RPM & CS™ logo marked 8000 rpm Tachometer and oil
gauge mounted with tachometer in fiberglass or plastic pod on dash attached with black
or chrome screws.
Dash Mounted Horn Switch: Black knob, spring loaded bottom off position.
Windshield Trim, Inside Mirror, Top Latches and Visor Brackets: Original style and
finish. Mounted in original location. No day-night mirrors.
INTERIOR

Package Tray and Quarter Panels: Correct style for interior and painted black.
Matching upper quarter panel trim and chrome air vent trim All were equipped with
black rear package tray in place of rear seat fold down seat. Quarter panel carpet
without serge edges.
Spare Tire and Wheel: Proper type for year and model. Cars with optional wheels may
have optional wheel or standard steel wheel (painted - silver/gray) for spare. Mounted
on rear package tray with correct black vinyl draw-string cover. Correct fold-down latch
hole cover and hardware.

TRUNK

decal. Mounted in original location. Correct lug wrench(es), for jack and style of wheel.
Bungee cord with eyelets attached to trunk floor.
Painted Surfaces in Trunk: Must match exterior color. Rear fold down door and hinges
painted to match interior color. Exposed package tray surface unpainted fiberglass.
Sound Deadener: Must be present on trunk side of quarter panels (covered with
exterior color)
Note: Battery Carrier and Battery: If trunk mounted use sections below in ENGINE
COMPARTMENT.
Trunk Wiring: Correct style and covering. Routed as original, with correct attaching
clips and hardware.
Taillight Body, Gas Filler Neck, Trunk Latch and Flex Hose: Original design and
finish.
Clamps: wire style, indexed correctly.
Taillight Body: Must have proper push on type connections and proper tail light nut
spacers.
Black luggage guard strip glued to driver side wheel well. 5 protective opaque trim
screw covers at top edge of trunk.
EXTERIOR

Hood, Scoops, and Fiberglass Body Panels: Proper material and style for year and
model. Clear silicone around headlight buckets, end caps and side scoops. Tail lamp
panel - dark gray strip caulk, may or may not be visible. Sealant must be visible around
all side scoops (top and sides only) and quarter panel end caps.
Grille and Grille Opening Trim: Correct design and hardware for year.
Grill: Gray-blue with black mounting tabs and supports (Some without vertical
supports). Black or natural attaching rivets.
Grill Trim: Anodized and painted grille trim as Mustangs with cast aluminum center
piece.
Headlamps and Doors: Matching, legal clear bulbs with embossed or script “FoMoCo”.
Doors, proper style and finish for year.
Parking, Tail, Back-Up, Running, Tag Lights: Original design for year. “FoMoCo”
script on all lenses.
Parking and Backup: Black boots Back-up light rubber gasket black.
Tag Light: Must have black braided cover.
EXTERIOR

Other Chrome Trim and Molding: Includes outside mirrors, vent windows, door
handles, windshield wiper arms, hood pins, emblems and other trim. Proper style and
finish for year, mounted in original location. Rear GT350 emblems, low gloss silver with
black lettering, mounted with pins. Early may not have tail light panel emblem.
Antenna: Round base and mast with beveled silver cap, in proper location.
Windshield, Quarter Windows and Other Glass: Must be Carlite glass in block or
script. Side widows and vents clear glass only.

Front Suspension and Steering: Front suspension lowered one inch at upper control
arm.
Natural Parts: Tie rods, tie rod adjustment sleeves, idler arm, coil springs (may be
semi-gloss black), drag link, pitman arm, steering box, strut rods, strut washers, sway
bar end links and mounting brackets, spindles, spring seats.
No grease fittings on tie rod ends.
Semi-Gloss Black Parts: 1” sway bar,
Upper Control Arms: dipped black with natural ball joint ends 4-rivet design. Grease
fitting plugs on ball joints & upper A arm inner mount.
Lower Control Arms: jacking tabs and be dipped black with natural ball-joint ends.

Rear End Housing: Must be 65 style 9-inch unit mounted with correct hardware.
Painted semi-gloss black.
Rear Brakes: Drums, cast iron finish with black brush painted face on cars without steel
wheels. Brake backing plates are FoMoCo and semi-gloss black finish.
Wheel Cylinders: cast iron finish with small zinc dichromate bleeders
Silver or black plated mounting bolts.
Brake Adjustment Hole: (if punched out) is to have plain black rubber plug,
Brake Shoe Retainers: zinc dichromate finish.
Parking Brake Cables and Hardware: Natural steel finish with proper rubber boots.
Shock Absorbers: Orange Koni shocks with eagle-style decal. Most with Koni shocks
had special large head shock bolts in front. Rear shocks with bell shaped boot covering
lower locking nuts.
UNDERCARRIAGE

Rear Wheel Wells: Body color over sound deadener. May have some black overspray.
Exhaust System, Clamps and Hangers: Side-exiting exhaust painted black. Except
cars delivered with Mustang style dual exhaust with turn downs..
Side exiting exhaust used generic clamps and saddles. Mustang hangers may still be
attached to vehicle but not used. Special hangers used to hang exhaust rear spring
front eye bolt. After approx 5S036 exhaust hanger added to floor.
Gas Tank: Original type and Ni-terne steel finish. Sending unit correctly finish and
style. Drain plug required.
Sending unit: Correct hose, clamps, finish and style.
Grommets, Attaching Nuts, Bolts and Washers: Original style and finish.
Wheels: Proper size and correct style for year and make. ’65 standard 15-inch Kelsey
Hayes steel wheels painted silver or optional 15-inch Cragar 5-spoke design.
Center Caps, Valve Stems and Lug Nuts: Correct style for year and wheel style.
Proper color painted cap if optional wheel. All chrome lug nuts.
Tires: Proper size and style for year and make - 7.75X15 Goodyear Blue Dot. No P-
Metric radials allowed. All five tires must match.
