IDEAS ABOUT READING


1. The SWOT analysis has been considered by a large number of experts as a tool that
lacks a predictive power and a quantitative analysis sufficiently strategic or elaborated
for decision making, it is more like an independent tool that summarizes some points of
the company and classifies them for the understanding of qualitative data, but without
offering beyond that. It is an unsystematic process that does not really allow to make
decisions about the information presented in the areas or ways in which a company can
reach success.

2. Many companies fail because their main objectives are always to be better than the
comptenecia and on leaving or adding value themselves based on what others do not
have. However, in order to be successful and to emerge in the market, obtaining value
and a great competitive advantage, it is important to identify and focus on the main
strengths with which the company has, either capabilities or resources and through
them, improve them and increase their value knowing that we are reinforcing a skill that
others do not have and that the company or the members of it already have it dominated
or at least they have knowledge of it; unlike wanting to create a new capacity that we are
not sure is really going to work.

3. A positioning map or a Meta-SWOT model generated through a series of processes in


which the company identifies its main ideas about the improvement of its capabilities,
strengths and weaknesses seems to be the best option for the taking of decisions,
because it allows to carry out a deeper analysis on the same and likewise, allows to
prioritize the most important needs of the company to set objectives and improve its
competitive advantage. Compared to the SWOT analysis that does not allow a
quantitative analysis, this new model can provide the tools to do so and is more useful
for the company.
