How to prepare for a job interview?

A job interview is a conversation which occurs between a potential employer and a job applicant.
During the job interview, the employer has the opportunity to appraise applicant’s qualifications,
appearance and general fitness for the job opening. In parallel the applicant tries to learn more
about the position, to appraise the employer and to find out if your needs and interests will be
met. Think of the interview as a conversation between two people where each person is trying
to learn more about the other.

Research the organization.

This will help you answer questions — and stand out from less-prepared candidates.
o Seek background information.
o Develop a question list.

Prepare responses
o Most interviews involve a combination of resume-based, behavioral and case questions.
We encourage you to meet with us to practice telling your story in the best possible way.

Plan what to wear.

o Go neutral. Conservative business attire, such as a neutral-colored suit and
professional shoes, is best.
o Make sure your clothes are neat and wrinkle-free.
o Be sure that your overall appearance is neat and clean.

Plan what to bring.

o Extra copies of your resume on quality paper
o A notepad or professional binder and pen
o A list of references
o Information you might need to complete an application
o A portfolio with samples of your work, if relevant

Pay attention to non-verbal communication.

o Project confidence. Smile, establish eye contact and use a firm handshake.
o Be attentive. Don't stare, but maintain good eye contact, while addressing all aspects
of an interviewer's questions.
o Respect their space. Do not place anything on their desk.
o Manage reactions. Facial expressions provide clues to your feelings. Manage how you
react, and project a positive image.
