EFFECT OF LAVENDER AROMATHERAPY IN LESSEN SYMPTOM OF
PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME

Abstract
Background: Premenstrual syndrome is a condition that is indicated by some
physical symptoms, emotions, and behavior undergone by female before a menstruation cycle made her in function disturbance and activity, the symptoms will be end while menstruation comes. The aromatherapy has positive effect with fresh scent, fragrant in stimulating censor, receptor and effect the other organ for emotional strong effect. The responds will stimulate the neurochemical in brain. Objective: To know the aromatherapy effect toward in lessen symptom of premenstrual syndrome. Method: This experimental research used one group posttest and pretest with pretest and posttest design. 45 respondents in dormitory of health faculty University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. Result: The data analysis compared the score of premenstrual syndrome symptom before and after lavender distribution by using t-paired test. It is known the difference 10,489 with error level (α)=0,05 known the probability significant or p- value is 0,000 or < α =0,005. Because the p-value < 0,05 so Ha is accepted and the effect of lavender toward the level of premenstrual syndrome is revealed.
