From the Minister
October 10, 2019, Category 4 storm Hurricane Michael made landfall on Florida’s Panhandle Gulfcoast. There have been
some reports that this may have even been a category 5 storm, and don’t even get me started on the conspiracy theories of
that issue. But the aftermath of this ravaging storm has been cities, towns, communities, families, and individuals DEVAST-
ED! And like most national stories, as long as it is worthy of the six o’clock news, we will continue to make efforts to at least
offer solutions. Here’s the problem: The counties west of us near Mexico Beach, Calloway, Panama City, Weewahitchca,
Blountstown, etc., are still very much suffering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Michael. While the news stories
lead us to believe that if nothing more is being said, things must be better. They’re not. As a matter of fact, after speaking
to several church leaders from the hardest hit areas, there is much concern that the debris fields and downed trees will be-
come ripe kindling as we approach the summer months. So if it hasn’t already been destroyed by wind and flood, it may
soon be destroyed by fire if nothing is done. On top of that, there are only so many houses, hotels, and apartments availa-
ble for not only those displaced from their own property damage, but also only so many available for the huge influx of con-
tractors and laborers. It’s all a vicious cycle that still has many, many months, if not years ahead before normal is a word
used in these communities.
So what can we do? We actually asked three different sister churches that very question (Eastside Christian Church of
Panama City, Christian Church at Panama City, and Bayou George Christian Church). What can the church in Tallahassee
DO to help out these sister congregations and fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Here’s what we heard:
1. Don’t forget them. The media and the rest of the world has, but they still want a world outside of their chaos to know
they are still there and they still have enormous needs.
2. Pray for them. Do you realize that one of the most important things every one of us can do doesn’t cost a dime. Take
the time to remember those impacted, who are still hurting—REMEMBER them in your prayers! PLEASE!
3. GIVE—give of our time if you can volunteer and give of your resources. Capital City Christian Church doesn’t have a lot
of strong backs to send over a team of chainsaws, but in our effort to be creative we not only blessed 16 children with
Christmas gifts, we are making plans to have a significant portion of our 2019-20 Missions offerings make it directly to
these three churches. Our Faith Promise pledge begins this coming month and will go through March of 2020. We
hope to bless not only our current missions, but take these three churches as an added commitment in our Faith Prom-
ise. Please consider coming alongside of us and helping out if you are not already.
4. Let others know—social media, word of mouth, personal blogs. If you have any creative ways of letting others know
that there is still a great need in the Panhandle of Florida, we would love to hear from you. Right now some of CCCC
members are making video interviews available on YouTube letting the voice of Hurricane Michael victims still be heard.
Let us know what other ideas you might have.
That being said, I don’t know as I am typing right now, how our Faith Promise Pledge turned out, but I’ll bet its exciting.
Make sure you are a part of God’s plan to help hurting people find hope.
See ya’ Sunday.

the water under the earth. 5 “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous
God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate
Me, 6but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who
daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.
11 “For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the
seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God
gives you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 ”You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his
female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
18 All the people perceived the thunder and the lightning flashes and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and
when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. 19 Then they said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will
listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die.” 20 Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; for God has come in order to
test you, and in order that the fear of Him may remain with you, so that you may not sin.” 21 So the people stood at a distance,
while Moses approached the thick cloud where God was. (Ex. 20:1-21)
The Greatest Commandment / Law (Also known as The Royal Law):
34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together. 35 And one of
them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him: 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 And he said
unto him, *Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the
great and first commandment. 39 And a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these
two commandments the whole law hangs, and the prophets. (Mat. 22:34-40)
*Jesus is right (of course), the whole law hangs on these brief words. The love we are commanded to have for God and one
another is the highest fulfillment of God’s Law, leading us by “true love” written upon the heart. Let Jesus’ words into your heart
and love your family, and your church family, in accord with the greatest and most lovely command!
