THEORY OF ARCHITECTURE

SEMESTER 5
JANHAVI SANKHE, 45.

LESS IS BORE:
Robert Venturi, in the book Complexity and Contradiction,
coined the term “Less is Bore,” as a counterpart to the
famous modernist dictum, less is more. Modernism was
about simplicity and minimalism.
When we talk about less is more, we talk about selective
problem solving. But as one goes further into design, more
problems come forward. The complexity lies in solving many
aspects and detailing in the design. Less is bore talks about
the practicality of architecture.
Less is bore can be seen in the works of legendary architects
like Zaha Hadid, Frank Ghery.
