NHS Minutes 1/8/19

● Hours- New Process

○ Found on website under Home- Members- [Name]- then fill out a survey

○ Verification is needed for personal hours, either a signature or an email

○ The archived hours page from previous years will be deleted

○ If you have questions, ask the board or Mr. George

● Dues now $15.00

○ Must be in by 3/14 or you can’t participate in the induction ceremony

● Toys for Tots

○ 1100 kids helped, with each kid receiving 9 toys

○ There are certificates for all participating volunteers from the Marine Corps

League

● Trees/Plants

○ If students still opt to plant trees, space is a concern

○ Potential to do a flower logo of the “GM” logo instead

■ This needs Dr. Heibel’s approval

○ Doing something like this will leave a mark returning 2019-2020 students can

look back on

● Fundraiser for senior stoles

○ That way students don’t have to rent them out of personal money

○ Extra $ can go towards something else (plants/trees?)

● Volunteer/Scholarship Opportunities
 ○ Washington College offers a $50K NHS scholarship

○ Cornell Summer Engineering Academies

■ Curie Academy (women engineers)

○ Chesapeake Bay Running Club sponsoring “Frozen Heart” 50K on 2/16

■ @ St. Mary’s Lake

■ Volunteers needed to help with parking/ aide stations

○ Just Ask Prevention conference on child trafficking on 2/2 in DC

■ NHS will offer one service hour for helping to put up posters/flyers during

lunch

● Inductions

○ Encourage new member signups

○ Applications open 1/10 and close 2/25

○ Ceremony on 3/14 (pi day)
