Information :

Samuel Moore Walton was born on March 29, 1918 in Kingfisher,

Oklahoma. Sam was the first son of a farming family. His father, Thomas Gibson

Walton, and his mother, Nancy Lee, lived on a farm for a few years. In 1921, the

Waltons welcomed a second son, James, into the family.

The farm struggled financially, however, and Thomas Walton changed

careers in 1923 by accepting a job with his brother's farm-financing business,

Walton Mortgage Company. The company was an agent of the Metropolitan Life

Insurance Company, and Thomas’ duties included foreclosing on farms during the

Great Depression.

The first Walmart store opened in 1962 in Rogers Arkansa. The founder of

Walmart is Sam Walton. Sam was born in 1918 in Kingfisher ,Oklahoma. He

joined the military at the age of 24 in 1942. He got married to a women named

Helen Robson in 1943. After Sam’s military service ended, he and his wife moved

to Iowa then to Newport, Arkansas.

After time went by Sam wanted to operate his own variety store. In 1950

Sam left Newport for Bentonville. There is where he opened Walton’s 5&10 on the

downtown square.
 They chose Bentonville because Helen wanted small-town living, and Sam

could take advantage of the different hunting seasons that living at the corner of

four states had to offer. Inspired by the early success of his dime store, and driven

to bring even greater opportunity and value to his customers, Sam opened the first

Walmart in 1962 at the age of 44 in Rogers, Arkansas.

located in all states and some parts of the world. Walmart invests about $2.7

billion over two years. The Board of Directors is Greg Penner.
