Uncertainty exists as to when a complete

conversion from English to the international

system of units (SI) will occur in the United
States. However, engineers should be
comfortable with both systems of units when
they enter practice. Therefore, this book:
continues to use a dual system of units, with
some emphasis placed on the English
system. Instructors should blend the two
systems of units as they see fit.
