There Should Be No Thought of Failure

Workers for Christ are never to think, much less to speak, of failure in their work. The Lord Jesus is our
efficiency in all things; His Spirit is to be our inspiration; and as we place ourselves in His hands, to be
channels of light, our means of doing good will never be exhausted. We may draw upon His fulness, and
receive of that grace which has no limit.--Gospel Workers, p. 19. {ChS 261.3}

When we give ourselves wholly to God, and in our work follow His directions, He makes Himself
responsible for its accomplishment. He would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest
endeavors. Not once should we even think of failure. We are to co-operate with One who knows no
failure.--Christ's Object Lessons, p. 363. {ChS 261.4}

The Lord is disappointed when His people place a low estimate upon themselves. He desires His
chosen heritage to value themselves according to the price He has placed upon them. God wanted them,
else He would not have sent His Son on such an expensive errand to redeem them. He has a use for
them, and He is well pleased when they make the very highest demands upon Him, that they may glorify
His name. They may expect large things if they have faith in His promises.--The Desire of Ages, p. 668.

The intelligence displayed by many dumb animals approaches so closely to human intelligence that it is a
mystery. The animals see and hear and love and fear and suffer. They use their organs far more faithfully
than many human beings use theirs. They manifest sympathy and tenderness toward their companions
in suffering. Many animals show an affection for those who have charge of them, far superior to the
affection shown by some of the human race. They form attachments for man which are not broken
without great suffering to them.

We need to have far less confidence in what man can do and far more confidence in what God can do for
every believing soul. He longs to have you reach after Him by faith. He longs to have you expect great
things from Him. He longs to give you understanding in temporal as well as in spiritual matters. He can
sharpen the intellect. He can give tact and skill. Put your talents into the work, ask God for wisdom, and
it will be given you.

All true obedience comes from the heart. It was heart work with Christ. And if we consent, He will so
identify Himself with our thoughts and aims, so blend our hearts and minds into conformity to His will,
that when obeying Him we shall be but carrying out our own impulses. The will, refined and sanctified,
will find its highest delight in doing His service. When we know God as it is our privilege to know Him,
our life will be a life of continual obedience. Through an appreciation of the character of Christ, through
communion with God, sin will become hateful to us.

The greatest want of the world is the want of men - men who will not be bought or sold; men who in
their inmost souls are true and honest; men who do not fear to call sin by its right name; men whose

What man with a human heart, who has ever cared for domestic animals, could look into their eyes, so

It is Satan's constant effort to misrepresent the character of God, the nature of sin, and the real issues at
stake in the great controversy. His sophistry lessens the obligation of the divine law and gives men
license to sin. At the same time he causes them to cherish false conceptions of God so that they regard
Him with fear and hate rather than with love. The cruelty inherent in his own character is attributed to
the Creator; it is embodied in systems of religion and expressed in modes of worship.

The voice of God is heard from heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering the

The hope of eternal life is not to be taken up upon slight grounds. It is a subject to be settled between
God and your own soul; settled for eternity. A supposed hope, and nothing more, will prove your ruin.

Ellen G. White

Taken, Soul, Ruins save quote picture

Many have a vague idea that they must make some wonderful effort in order to gain the favor of God.
But all self-dependence is vain. It is only by connecting with Jesus through faith that the sinner becomes
a hopeful, believing child of God.

If Christians will obey the instructions given to them by Christ and his inspired apostles, they will adorn
the religion of the Bible, and save themselves much perplexity and severe trials, which they attribute to
their afflictions in consequence of believing unpopular truth.

do this, but every disciple of Christ. Their conversation should be heavenly.

True love is not a strong, fiery, impetuous passion. It is, on the contrary, an element calm and deep. It
looks beyond mere externals, and is attracted by qualities alone. It is wise and discriminating, and its
devotion is real and abiding.

Ellen G. White

True Love, Wise, Strong save quote picture

Lightness, jesting, and joking, can only be indulged at the expense of barrenness of soul, and the loss of
the favor of God.

Flesh-meats will depreciate the blood. Cook meat with spices, and eat it with rich cakes and pies, and
you have a bad quality of blood.

Ellen G. White

Whatsoever is done out of pure love, be it ever so little or contemptible in the sight of men, is wholly

Children that have been petted and waited upon, always expect it; and if their expectations are not met,
they are disappointed and discouraged. This same disposition will be seen through their whole lives, and
they will be helpless, leaning upon others for aid, expecting others to favor them and yield to them.

Ellen G. White

Confound not faith and feeling together. They are distinct. Faith is ours to exercise. Believe, believe. Let

Men professing godliness offer their bodies upon Satan's altar, and burn the incense of tobacco to his
satanic majesty. Does this statement seem severe? The offering must be presented to some deity. Since
God is pure and holy, and will accept nothing defiling in its character, He refuses this expensive, filthy,
and unholy sacrifice; therefore we conclude that Satan is the one who claims the honor.

Ellen G. White

The righteousness by which we are justified is imputed; the righteousness by which we are sanctified is

We are not our own. We do not belong to ourselves. But we have been purchased with a dear price. We

The love of Christ reaches to the very depths of earthly misery and woe, or it would not meet the case of

Sisters, when about their work, should not put on clothing which would make them look like images to

It is right to love beauty and to desire it; but God desires us to love and seek first the highest beauty, that

It is Satan's work to fill men's hearts with doubt. He leads them to look upon God as a stern judge. He
tempts them to sin, and then to regard themselves as too vile to approach their heavenly Father or to
excite His pity. The Lord understands all this. Jesus assures His disciples of God's sympathy for them in
their needs and weaknesses. Not a sigh is breathed, not a pain felt, not a grief pierces the soul, but the
throb vibrates to the Father's heart.

Ellen G. White

Jesus, Pain, Father save quote picture

The great controversy is ended. Sin and sinners are no more. The entire universe is clean. One pulse of
harmony and gladness beats through the vast creation. From Him who created all, flow life and light and

things, animate and inanimate, in their unshadowed beauty and perfect joy, declare that God is love.

Ministers should not pray so loud, and long, as to exhaust the strength. It is not necessary to weary the
throat and lungs in prayer. God's ear is ever open to hear the heart-felt petitions of his humble servants,
and he does not require them to wear out the organs of speech in addressing him.

Ellen G. White

The name, Seventh-day Adventist, is a standing rebuke to the Protestant world. Here is the line of

If you have other gods before the Lord, your heart will be turned away from serving the only true and
living God, who requires the whole heart, the undivided affections. All the heart, all the soul, all the

Ellen G. White

I prize my seamstress, I value my copyist; but my cook, who knows well how to prepare the food to

Ellen G. White

I had often sought for the peace there is in Christ, but I could not seem to find the freedom I desired. A
terrible sadness rested on my heart. I could not think of anything I had done to cause me to feel sad; but
it seemed to me that I was not good enough to enter Heaven, that such a thing would be altogether too
much for me to expect.

Ellen G. White

The young among us are, as a general thing, allied to the world. But few maintain a special warfare

When music is allowed to take the place of devotion and prayer, it is a terrible curse. Young people

Ministers should be Bible students. They should thoroughly furnish themselves with the evidences of our

Love exercised while duty is neglected will make children headstrong, willful, perverse, selfish, and

Duty and love must be blended in order that children may be properly disciplined.

In consequence of our limited ideas of the sufferings of Christ, we place a low estimate upon the great

The most important part of the daily ministration was the service performed in behalf of individuals. ...
By his own hand the animal was then slain, and the blood was carried by the priest into the holy place

transgressed. By this ceremony the sin was, through the blood, transferred in figure to the sanctuary
