Cooling

Rack cooling
When climate control and ventilation are ideal, computing

processes are able to run efficiently. This means uninter-

rupted data flows, which in turn translates into non-stop

productivity. Further information can be found under

“System climate control”, see page 629.

Passive cooling
(use of the
ambient air)
The air is cooled via the regular
ambient air or via the building’s
air-conditioning system and it is
then routed into the raised floor
for rack cooling.

Active, rack-related
cooling
By contrast, rack-specific, active
cooling is capable of reducing
the interior temperature of the
rack to below the ambient tem-
perature. This cooling technique
is very effective with an appro-
priate room volume and
in industrial environments.
