ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is one of the health problems today, which have


increasing prevalence. Diabetes mellitus is a lifelong illness, the surveillance and
monitoring in the diabetes mellitus management at any time becomes very
important. The aim of this study is to analyze the relation between knowledge and
family attitudes on blood sugar control support actions in diabetes mellitus
patient.

Research design is crosssectional. Samples are families who have family


members suffering from diabetes mellitus and treatment at Balong Public Health
Center, Ponorogo District. 51 respondent were taken using Simple Random
Sampling. Data collection techniques using questionnaires. Research variables are
age characteristic, education, job, family status, knowledge, family attitudes about
diabetes mellitus and blood sugar control support actions in diabetes mellitus
patient included diet support, sport and drink medicine.

The result showed that there was a correlation between blood sugar control
support actions and knowledge (OR = 0.017 p = 4.9) blood sugar control support
actions and attitude (OR = 0.007 p = 6), sport support and knowledge (p = 0.015
OR = 5.1), sport support and attitude (p = 0.001 OR = 10), taking medicine and
knowledge (p = 0.018 OR = 4.75), and a medicine and attitude (p = 0.001 OR =
8.5).

The conclusion of this research are knowledge and family attitudes


affecting the blood sugar control support actions in diabetes mellitus patient.
