to him.
01 15 Malcolm goes with family to attend Cassius Clay weeklong fight camp in Miami, Florida

01 21 Returns to New York from week's vacation with family at Cassius Clay's home
in Miami, Florida.

02 10 Former assistant to Malcolm at Mosque No. 7 informs him that he has been asked by a
mosque official to wire Malcolm X's car with a bomb.

03 10 The NOI sends Malcolm a certified letter requesting that he return all NOI property,
including his home.
03 12 Malcolm announces his split from NOI at a press conference and reads out telegram he sent
Elijah Muhammad.
03 16 Filed Certificate of Incorporation for Muslim Mosque.

03 26 Meets Martin Luther King Jr., face to face, for the first and only time, after a King news
conference in the U.S. Capitol. Eight months before their brief meeting on Capitol Hill,
Malcolm X sent a letter to King, requesting a meeting. The letter was dated July 31, 1963.
04 03 Malcolm delivers his famous Ballot or the Bullet speech in Cleveland.

04 08 The NOI files eviction proceedings against Malcolm. He answers them on April 13; hearing
is set for April 17 but is postponed twice, first until May 26 and then until June 3.
04 12 Announces plans for Hajj and Africa tour at a Muslim Mosque Inc. rally.

04 13 Malcolm leaves for Hajj under the name of Malik El-Shabazz via Egypt

04 30 Flies to Beirut to speak at Sudanese Cultural Center and then immediately back to Egypt for
a week.
05 06 Malcolm goes to Nigeria for a 4 days and is given a rockstar welcome.

05 08 New York Times reports on a letter written by Malcolm while in Africa; article caption
reads: "Malcolm X Pleased by White Attitude on Trip to Mecca."

activists.

05 21 Malcolm X returns to New York where family, friends, and press await him.

06 07 Responding to increased NOI threats, Malcolm holds Muslim Mosque rally at Audobon and
states that Elijah Muhammad is the father of six illegitimate children.

06 15 NOI eviction trial against Malcolm X begins with heavy presence of NOI and only 10
Malcolm followers. Malcolm warned if he comes, he will be killed. He comes any way and
refuses police protection. The eviction trial was for two days, and the judge did not give final
sentence.

06 26 New York Post publishes open letter from Malcolm X to Elijah Muhammad calling for an
end to hostilities between them.
06 28 Announces the formation of the OAAU (Organization of Afro-American Unity), which will
be committed to doing "whatever is necessary to bring the Negro struggle from the level of
civil rights to the level of human rights.
07 05 Four men with knives approach him and charge at him in front of his house as he steps into
his car. Malcolm quickly drives off. His family wasn’t home. He addresses OAAU rally in
Audobon same day.
07 17 Malcolm meets with the Rector of Al Axhar University in Cairo, Sheik Abdel Rahman Tag,
Attends African Summit Conference as representative of the OAAU; appeals to the delegates
of the thirty-four African nations to bring the cause of the twenty-two million black people in
the United States before the United Nations. Distributes a press release on OAAU letterhead
on behalf of twenty-two million Afro-Americans in the United States.
08 04 At a banquet in Alexandria, Egypt, addresses more than six hundred Muslim students
representing seventy three different African and Asian countries.
08 17 Malcolm speaks to the OAU in Cairo, Egypt and the Second African Summit. Malcolm
would spend weeks here at Al Azhar, conferences, addressing students.
09 01 In New York, Civil Court Judge Maurice Wahl issues order that Malcolm X must vacate
residence in East Elmhurst by January 31, 1965. Attorney General Lefkowitz requests that
Yeagley use contacts in U.S. government to locate Malcolm X, so he can testify in a New
York NOI trial.
9 13 Malcolm leaves for Umrah privately
10 18 Over the next week Meets Tanzanian President Babu, Kenyan President Jomo Kenyatta, and
Ugandan President Milton Obote.
10 29 Visits Nigeria again and various African countries.

11 23 Malcolm speaks in France

11 24 Malcolm return to New York and is greeted at airport by followers from Muslim Mosque
and OAAU
11 29 Malcolm speaks at OAAU homecoming rally, remarks that he will travel
to London and Oxford.
12 03 Malcolm debates at Oxford University, England for the motion that "extremism in the
defense of liberty is no vice, moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue." Malcolm wins the
debate.
12 07 In Chicago, Captain Raymond Sharrieff of NOI issues threat to Malcolm X. Malcolm
responds privately that he isn’t interested in fighting the NOI anymore.
12 13 Malcolm speaks at OAAU rally with Dick Gregory and reads a message from Che Guervara
to a packed house.

12 16 Malcolm speaks at Harvard Law School Forum

12 20 Malcolm speaks at OAAU rally with Fannie Lou Hammer on African natural resources. The
same day, Malcolm speaks at a Harlem rally in support of the Mississippi Freedom
Democratic Party.

01 12 As threatening calls increase, Malcolm starts using different names at hotels. He registers at
Hilton Hotel in New York under Muhammad Khalil.

Flies to Los Angeles and meets with attorney Gladys Towles Root and two former NOI
secretaries who are filing paternity suits against Elijah Muhammad.
01 29 Flies to Chicago to testify before Illinois Attorney General, who is investigating NOI
activities.
02 04 Travels to Selma, Alabama in support of MLK and SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership
Conference) campaign for voting rights.
02 05 Leaves for New York, then London and Paris
02 08 Addresses the First Congress of the Council of African Organizations in London.

02 09 Flies to Paris, but is refused entry by French government officials; returns to London.

02 11 Delivers speech entitled "The oppressed masses of the world cry out for action against the
common oppressor" at the London School of Economics.
02 13 Flies back to New York.

02 14 Malcolm's house in East Elmhurst is firebombed same night of arrival at 2:46 A.M.

02 14 Malcolm flies to Detroit at 9:30 A.M. Has interviews all day, then address the First Annual
Dignity Projection and Scholarship Award ceremony sponsored by the Afro-American
Broadcasting and Recording Company at the Ford Auditorium.
Malcolm flies back and speaks at Harlem rally the same evening.

02 15 Six hundred people attend OAAU rally from 8:15 -10:15 P.M., at Audubon Ballroom;
Benjamin X opens; Malcolm X speaks of February 14 firebombing and NOI conspiracy with
KKK.
02 18 Malcolm's family is evicted from home at 9:00 A.M.; moves belongings at 1:00 P.M.

Malcolm speaks same day at Columbia University "The Black Revolution and its Effect
Upon the Negroes of the Western Hemisphere."
02 21 Malcolm assassinated at 3 PM at the Audobon Ballroom
