Detailed Slides
Ribbon User Interface
● PRO/II 9.4. has a more Microsoft Office look
● Express tab has tools used in 75%+ of simulation work

● It auto resizes
Keyboard Shortcuts
● In addition to the new ribbon bar, use keyboard shortcuts to access
functions
● Press Alt, then the letter of the tab you want to go (even if you are there)

● Press the letter of the command you want to invoke

Double Precision/Display Precision
● Up to 14 significant digits are stored with the option to change
Global Tolerances

● In version 9.4 global default

tolerances have been
tightened, user has option to
revert to older looser
tolerances or to set his own
defaults.
● Choose Global Tolerances…
from the Simulation Defaults
dropdown
Global Tolerances when Migrating
Files
● You have the option to select simulation
tolerances when migrating old files to 9.4
Select Default UOM During
Installation
● During installation, V9.4 provides the option to set the default units of
measurement for PRO/II
Version Migration
● When migrating files, extra precision may change inputs that were once
rounded
● Use Schema migration to keep data from previous version database
– Input values may slightly differ but all significant digits are preserved
● Use Keyword migration to recalculate the database with input values
– May truncate significant digits entered by user
– Also cleans database from potential memory issues
– It is important to update the estimates before migrating
Migration Options

● By Schema

● By Keyword
Standard Volumetric Flow
Metric Standard English Standard

● Changing from one to another

can yield molar differences
● Note: New precision for standard
pressure and gauge pressure
Tooltips for Streams and Unit ops
● Equivalent/consistent behavior than previous tooltips for streams

● Be aware that not all the properties are calculated by default

Toggle Property List
● Previously existing for Streams, it now works for Unit operations too
● Not aesthetic but functional
Property List

Global selection or individual display

Units of Measurement (UOM)
● V9.4 allows you to import units of measurement when importing
components and thermodynamic data from an external flowsheet or
input file
AutoSave Improvement

● AutoSave allows you to recover simulations from a crash (similar to

Excel & Word)
● Former issue: If you have a corrupted file and it is autosaved, it crashes.
When you try to reopen the corrupted saved file, it crashes again.
● Solution: Multiple layers of file saving; user selectable saving directory

SAVING TOO OFTEN MAY

CAUSE SLOW PERIODS OF
TIMES WHILE SAVING!
Solid Fuel Characterization
● PRO/II 9.4 provides solid fuel characterization through the Ultimate
Analysis option on the Tools menu
● Fuel Properties
● Ultimate Analysis
● Proximate Analysis
● Fuel Type
– Coal
– Biomass
– Municipal Solid
Waste
– Estimate from
Proximate Analysis
Report Note: You should use a conversion reactor to
– User Input convert all coal to gas and then use a Gibbs
Reactor to account for incomplete oxidation
and formation of NOx byproducts
Additional Solid Fuel Tool Features
● Solid Fuel Tool creates names for components and reactions
● You can add multiple coal components; just give different names
Component Properties
● Component Properties in one dialog box instead of five
● All fixed component properties in one scrollable dialog box makes it
easier to copy/paste to/from Excel
DIPPR Registration in 4 Steps
● Four easy steps to registration

● Pipe Line Sizing recalculates dimensions independent of PRO/II

Vessel Sizing

● Vessel (flash) sizing for two or

three phase separation
Heat Exchanger Liquid Fraction Spec

● The Rigorous heat exchanger provides two new specifications for

Liquid Fraction on the Tube and Shell outlets
Automatic Heat Curve Generation

● Critical properties are now included

Flash Drum Entrainment

mole percent, rate), PRO/II 9.4 provides these options:
● Weight fraction
● Weight percent
● Actual volume fraction
● Actual volume percent
● Actual volume
