Carlos’ Trash Conversion-Finale

My topic is converting trash into pieces of art, with the purpose of creating a cleaner

community for us to live in. The problem I set out to alleviate was the issue with the

accumulating amount of garbage that is improperly disposed of. The solution I came up with was

repurposing the trash into art. Through this, I was hoping to learn how to properly reuse trash to

make something beautiful. The first steps I took were roaming around for garbage and thinking

of types of art to create. Some obstacles I faced were the constant rain preventing me from

looking for more trash and finding ideas for the pieces of art. The steps I actually took were

collecting garbage for the piece, creating a canvas and then “ painting” on the canvas using bottle

caps. I then created a step by step powerpoint for anyone to make their own pieces. I feel that I

was able to accomplish the main goal of my project which was to remove trash from my

community. In addition, I was able to create a cool looking art piece. I learned that anything can

be repurposed into something worth looking at. I also learned that I have a creative side that can

actually be expressed. I’m proud that I was able to remove a lot of plastic from my community,

reducing the pollution problem. I wish I would have been able to create a second piece that

would have been three dimensional. In my opinion, I created a difference by creating a cleaner

environment for the rest of my community. If I had more time I would have had multiple people

creating art using trash in a workshop. To the incoming seniors, I would recommend that they try
a topic that they aren’t extremely knowledgeable on so that they can learn from the entire

capstone process.
