ITEC Lesson Plan Format

Common Core Standard: 1.OA.A.2 Solve word problems that call for the
addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, by using
objects, drawings, or equations.

Objective/Purpose At the end of this lesson the students will understand how
to solve a word problem by using objects, drawings, or equations.

Anticipatory Set The students will first be watching a video on the material, that
will be interactive and have them ready to do a hands on engaging activity the
next day.

Model During the activity using objects, drawings and equations, they will
demonstrate their understanding from the video.

Guided Practice When the students come to class the next day, they will all be
participating in stations. One station will have different objects and word
problems that they can figure out. One station for objects, one for drawing, one
for equations, and one to write their own word problems. Then the students will
all switch their problem with another student and use the method of their
choice to solve that problem.
Check for Understanding If the students understand how to use each method, I
will know that they understand.

Closure When they figure out a peers problem, then they will prove to a
student how they did it and get their work checked. Then they can demonstrate
that they understand the information.
